Montblanc Leo Tolstoy

I finally got my own bottle of Tolstoy after three month's wait.

I like this bottle. But I like the square MB bottle more.

Splash

L: photo. R: scan. I think the photo is closer to what I see. The scan seems to make it bluer.

Writing sample

It's a medium blue with more green tint where the ink pools. I don't know if it's the pen (it's a new pen and the first time I ink it up) or the ink, but it writes very smooth and wet.

Sheen

Subtle red sheen at the edge.

Comparison

I shall just compare my current blues in rotation.

Thank you for your review.

This ink is my definition of 'bland'. It has nothing that sets it apart from a myriad of other inks so I'll move my bottles on.

Thanks for a great review. I was wondering about this ink and will have to check it out the next time I am in the MB store.

I love this ink, it's one of my favourite blue's. It does look a little bland here, but in person it is very nice.

I thought this post flattered it :-)

I don't find mine bland at all. Rather like a really blue sky. Best of all, just over the ocean on a clear day.

I like it...

I've got some really gorgeous blue inks so I've spoilt myself - it takes a really outstanding blue ink to make an impression and to me this one is just mediocre. YMMV of course :-)

So what are these really gorgeous blues that you speak of?

As well as the usual Sailor-made suspects, I mix my own these days, from various ink mixing sets. The Platinum inks can reward you with wonderful sheen, dependent on the colours used. I also have some dyes I've started to experiment with. I made 3 especially successful blues I've called Copenhagen Blue, Blue Lake & Periwinke.

Great review. Thank you.

A nice review of the Tolstoy Sky Blue ink! I purchased a bottle last month and am thoroughly enjoying the ink. I've been searching for another bottle, but the Montblanc Boutiques seem to be out of the ink. I have my name in for back orders. Hopefully, some of the ink will be shipped to the stores here in King of Prussia and Tyson's Corner.

i'm not too crazy about blue inks. but this one catches my attention. i like how it is somewhat muted yet saturated enough to stand out and still quite easy on the eyes.

LG, did you find any ghosting with this ink? I found that when I've used a really wet pen, you can see the outline of this ink on the other side (ghosting not bleed through).

Thanks for the great review! Although it does seem a bit bland I do love the color- blue inks are my favorite.
