The Silvern by Pilot (Namiki Silvern in the US Market) is available in a variety of attractive motifs, each motif a representative of something special to the Japanese culture. The Tsumugi represents the Yuki-Tsumugi technique of silk fabric weaving.

 

I just wanted to share some pictures of this pen, a recent acquisition from Japan.

The Pen: The pen looks much better in person than any pictures on the internet. I was really happy I bought the pen.

Beautiful pics Hari!

How are you planning on dealing with the tarnish? I almost got one last month but I hold off because of that.

Have you seen the other 2 models? I've seen other models with dragons and such, but I am not so sure if they belong to the same family models.

I am an admirer of the Silvern's styling but have never seen one in this finish. I like it a lot! :)

Thanks! The pen is sure to develop Tarnish if not used. I use a mild silver polishing cloth(Sunshine cloth) to clean up the pen. I have seen the other two models, I particularly like the Ishidatami (Stone Pavement) pattern. I reviewed my example here:

I have a few of the Cisele pattern also, of the models that just preceded the Silvern line:

The models with the Motifs like Dragon, Crane(Sarus), Turtle etc are all also called Silvern "Art Craft" only and are priced the same, but they have a different model number(FK-5000S) and they have small differences in detail (14k yellow nib, wider cap band, pen shape appears different, will compare)from the other three Silvern models which depict traditional Japanese lifestyle:

To me this is the nicest pattern. The micro checks would drive me insane, and the cobblestone pattern isn't abstract enough, giving the pen a somewhat confused identity. Just my opinion.

Thank you Sonik, I find these pens very comfortable to use.

To me this is the nicest pattern. The micro checks would drive me insane, and the cobblestone pattern isn't abstract enough, giving the pen a somewhat confused identity. Just my opinion.

Thank you. Actually these three patterns each have a deep meaning in their culture.

 

The Koshi (Lattice) pattern represents the Koshi-do, the traditional latticed entrance to temples etc.

 

The Tsumugi represents the silk craft and the Ishidatami represents the stone paved roads that the Japanese hold dear.

I agree, the large inset nib is very impressive. Yes, It is being used everyday. Con50 converter, Pilot Blue-Black ink.

I congratulate you on the woven background fabric of Indian origin. My wife, a master weaver, immediately recognized its beauty. Her local guild had invited a master weaver from Bihar State to come to Alliston to demo for us.

I have several meters of a similar cloth in blue to be made into a shirt.
