Replace The Nib In An Older Model Cross Pen

Several years ago, I bought 12 Cross pens of the same model, although I don't know the name of the model. I got the pens at a very good price.
All nibs are either fine or extra-fine, which was what I needed at the time because I was constantly entering notations on data reports. Since I no longer do that type of work, I would like to replace several of the nibs with larger sizes.
I assume the Cross nibs are #5 (?). The photo shows the Cross nib next to a #6 Noodlers nib.
Would just about any #5 nib work, or is the Cross feed suited only for the Cross nib?
Thanks!
PS - Please let me know if this post needs to be in the Nibs and Tines section. :)

Hi,

Your pen is a Cross Solo Sport. You may be able to track down Solo or Radiance (a variation of the Solo) pens with medium or broad nibs. Otherwise, it was made for Cross by Pilot, so you might search FPN for threads on the interchangeability of Pilot nibs between models, and find a reference to the Cross Solo there.

ah-HA! Much appreciation for the reply, as I had almost given up. Now I know the name of the model and that will help. I will continue the search as you suggested. These are nice pens, well made and great writers. They have good size (almost 5" uncapped and unposted) and they each came is a nice box. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

There is another use of a Cross Solo nib & section:

Note to self: Purchase a Parker Duofold Big Red immediately! :) Haha...looks nice, actually...Thanks.

Why not list the dimensions of your nib

The length, and width at the front shoulders as well as at the back end.

You may be pleasantly surprised as to what the results just might be.

It is very hard to tell from a photo what might work.

I often am called upon to help other folks like yourself

I prefer to have the pen , to assure a good fit and of course to regulate the ink flow, but you just may be able to do it yourself

Good Luck

I have a Solo in the same color as yours. I have put a Parker Sonnet 18K rhodium plated nib into it, and it works to perfection. The section can also be screwed into a Parker Big Red ballpoint pen to make a fountain pen. The Big Red conversion has been done fairly often.

You could take any Parker Sonnet nib, take it off of the feed and friction fit it into the Solo using the Solo feed. This gives you the possibility of using any of the Sonnet round steel or gold nibs, any of the Sonnet stubs, italics or obliques.
