Spanish (Styb?) Vintage Flex Pen

Some days ago I found this nice little pen in antiquarian. It is a fountain pen with ink sac that needs restoration, but which I review here after using it for a few tries as a dip pen, just to show it off a bit :-)

It seems to be made of celluloid and the nib could be gold, but there are things that make me doubt about it. For starters, it does not state it on the nib; instead, it seems to say "Pluma STYB", which matches a Spanish manufacturer that does not seem to make "luxurious" products. Nevertheless, the nib is very flexy

I am really looking forward to restoring it back into a working condition for drawing. I just need to find sac and the other utensils. Hints welcome.

That is a great finding.

The flex is good, and the pen is very nice looking.

I dare say it is a galalith made pen therefore, soaking is not advised for cleaning.

Indeed, I am very happy with it. I hope I can do a decent work restoring it.

I did not know about galalith. The body and the cap are translucent and leave a white dust behind, which is why I thought of celluloid. I will try not to soak it,following your advice but it seems there will be no risk: the only part that needs cleaning is the feed and the place where it rests, which seems to be made of a different, more robust material. Let's see.. I just need to find a rubber sac provider for this guy.

You shouldn't have any difficulty finding an ink sac at Pendragon's.

Yes, I really do think is it galalith (also know as casein, milk protein). But you can clean it with a wet piece of fabric and clean if after, it will cause no harm. Carefull with heat, too.

Other than this ;) , enjoy it.

Hi, I have not managed to do a close-up of the nib, because the letters are very thin and reflected light really obscures them. The best I got is worse than a pic someone else found in a different forum

It seems the nib is French (Probably low quality metal) and from Blanzy Poure & Cie, according to the bottom inscription and the page where it sold in Japan.

My picture is similar but lower quality; you cannot see the letters, sorry. There is nothing on the back, btw.

No, it seems it goes all together: plumasty and that's some model from this french company (not Spanish and not STYB as I thought).

Today I managed to clean and repare it, adding the sac. It is a little wonder. So soft on the paper it glides, even though it does not have iridium ball (just bent tip). Needs some getting use to, but since I was already using a fude pen I can also get line variation from just the inclination, which is great. I leave you with some samples: they show all the line variation that I need for drawing.
