This is one of my three MB Grail Sets that I recently acquired. A 1955 Montblanc 142 Green Striated / Striped FP and Pencil Set in NOS condition. I have looked for this set going on 7 years now and it seems that patience has paid off! Yes it has! Even came with the green leather original zippered case.

I am ecstatic! .....settle down Richard....settle! Breathe!!

Lovely !I will write a review later, but for now this is worth sharing!

Gorgeous!!

7 years - wow, that's quite a hunt. Enjoy the spoils :)

True bliss: knowing that the guy next to you is suffering more than you are.

The Hunt is 1/2 of the joy. Perhaps more... But this one pulled my pucker string a bit tighter than I am used to. When purchasing a set that will set you back the better part of $2000.00 there has to be some trust placed in the origin. So far I have never been disappointed.

1955 is my birth year (appealing) and to find a set with its original leather zippered case is simply "tingling"!!!

I have come to the place that vintage pens hold the most importance to me. I have so loved collecting FPs since 1988 and how can you go wrong with a set that exemplifies Montblanc's top quality from days gone by.

I have to say that sometimes I wish FP manufacturers would reproduce their icons from history. I would instantly acquire a set like this if it were offered from Montblanc today, but then again there is just something about the hunt for a vintage hole plugger.

7 years ago I decided I wanted the 142, 144, and 146 Green Striped / Striated FP and Pencil sets as complete as possible for my MB collection. My problem was my lack of knowledge when it came to genuine vintage sources. When you find someone that can source them then spending $$$$ is not as difficult as expected.

Sigh.... It's not the money.... it's the availability. And this drives me.

A wonderful set, congratulations. The condition looks to be excellent with very little ambering on the barrel.

What are the other 2 grail sets? The 144/6 you mention? Any pics? :)

People actually go to that website and there's pens still up for grabs that I might want?

Still hope after what seems like 10 years with no luck for that site... :(

Wonderful looking pens  :notworthy1:

....my MB's are all black & gold except for a gold filled 742. (Only got 5)

I got hooked on a Black and Gold Woolf....instead of some other writer's pens that have color. That seems to me the only way to get out of the B&W MB mode.

Sometimes it's so hard finding any German company's color, non-black pens. Then they cost 1/3-1/2 more.....at a much lower level than those grand green stripped MB's. :puddle:

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

The other sets will be the 144 and 146 as close as I can get them to original.

The pencils are the same, but to find them together as close to original as possible is my goal.

No photos yet as I do not own them and cannot find them on the net.

So true.

I eyed this set about 7 years ago, but have had the most dastardly time finding the set in its original form.

To get one with its original alligator zippered pouch and FP / Pencil in a NOS condition is worth just about anything I have to pay for it.

I am a complete sucker for vintage MB pens,.... much less sets. ....sigh....!

I have the same set, the pencil for the 142 is 172K which is the short model of the 172, and the pencils for the larger models should be the 172 (to the best of my knowledge).

Just curious: Are you going to fill it up & use it or preserve it`s mint state?

I have already filled it today and used it to my extreme satisfaction.

The nib is as smooth as a baby's left cheek and I have enjoyed using it throughout the day today.

Some things in life just do not need to be considered. This set is 60 years old as am I! There is just something about scribing office meeting notes with an incredible pen that makes meetings all the more desirable to attend.

Best of luck to you Torstar!

Gary's pens are second to none and just as described. This 1955 Green Striated FP filled and wrote as if it were manufactured yesterday! The pencil was a no brainer and functioned like new.

Such a deep pleasure!

I'm not even in to the green striated montblancs, and that's amazing. Absolutely gorgeous, and a great find!

That is a lovely set I am a tad envious... enjoy :)

I have aquired myself a 1940ies pen, which I`ve been looking for on the bay for 20 months, recently.

Finally I got it for a ludicrously low price, especially given the fact that it`s NOS!

So far I didn`t have the heart to ink it up

Well anyway, I wish you lot`s of a good time with your pens :)

I used the FP today at work the entire day.

I have to ask why can't MB produce an FP with this type of quality today.

I own 2 149s and many other MB FPs from the anniversaries, the Writer's editions, and so forth, but this 1955 Green Striated 142 has nothing to compare.... at least in my collection. (14 MB FPs).

Regardless of the price, this one is worth the $$$$$!!!

This weekend I will be writing for several days completing a travel journal. This MB will be my choice!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
