Question On How To Fix The Parker 45 Pencil

I had recently inherited a Parker ( I believe it is a 45) Flighter pencil- twist activated. Since there was no lead loaded, I attempted to load the pencil lead (by retrieving the lead from the lead chamber/magazine). Upon removing the upper body of the pencil, the lead chamber came off (along with the upper body, or Cap). I can physically see the "spiral tube" that I believe to be the lead propelling mechanism.

 

I do not think this is normal at all. Can anyone tell me if this can be fixed? Are there some easy steps can be implemented to prevent the lead chamber/ magazine being removed? I wonder if there is some parts got loose, or not fastened properly?

 

Can someone share their thought on this, thank you very much.

Mine did the exact same thing. I've attached photos for comparison.

You should be able to pull the chamber off the back and put it back over the propelling mechanism. That will let you use the eraser. You really don't need to pull it apart otherwise, since it's a front-loading pencil.

One thing to look at is at the end of the tube to see if it is cracked. Part is forced fitted to the mechanism. I have a few that are cracked and i still need to weld or solder the crack. Twist off the nose cone and that will allow you to remove the rest of the mechanism.

Is there a special tool you can use to twist off the nose cone..... Mine proves to be hard to twist off, any advise on how to safely do that?

No special tool. Some are just harder to remove. Use your own judgement on using any tool, they are screwed on. I have a few that are difficult to remove. I have not tried this but maybe WD-40 ? A little heat ? It all is trial & error in doing anything in life.

It's handy to have a couple of padded pliers. Simplest is standard adjustable pliers with rubber coating on the "teeth". Eventually, you will want a pair of "section pliers".
