Whats Your Favourite Oversize Japanese Pen?

Mockingbird

Recommended Posts

After using my new 'Sailor King of Pen' for a few weeks, switching to the smaller '1911 Large' feels slightly awkward!

I'm wondering if I'll ever get a normal sized pen again!

What are your favourite Japanese/otherwise oversize pens?

It's not oversized, but I do love the Namiki Yukari Royale. I found the Emperor gorgeous but far too large. Same goes with Danitrio Mikado and Genkai

The Danitrio Densho is the perfect size and light weight for me.

These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value.--Thomas Paine, "The American Crisis", 1776

Sailor King of Pen is my favorite. But I have no trouble switching back to other pens.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Too many pens; too little writing.

Do you know if Hakase can be made with Sailor nibs?

I like the idea of a wooden 149/KOP.

Sailor have a briar KOP that looks good, but its priced at Hakase pen levels.

Those Hakase pens are beautiful! I am a fan of Nakaya. I know that Eboya makes some fairly sizable pens. I own a Danitrio that is pretty sizable. It should be noted that both Eboya and Danitrio use Bock nibs from Germany. They are not Japanese nibs but they are still wonderful.

I know that they used to use Sailor nibs, but all of mine use Pilot. It wouldn't hurt to ask Mr. Yamamoto at Hakase...

It looks like for their smaller nib, what they call their "DX" nib, you can choose either Sailor or Pilot. But for the bigger size nib only the #15 Pilot nib is available.

Thank god I like larger pens as I'd have a very hard time choosing between those two (Sailor's 14k nibs are, IMO, their best)...

Never used a Sailor nib but all the talk has me very interested. Unfortunately the KoP Ebonite or Pro Gear is the model that I like most and that only comes with the 21k nib.

Perhaps Ohashido it is ...

Danitrio Genkai. I've found by a lot of trial and error that I can write comfortably for longer with large pens.

I love my Danitrio Densho, too! (Nib was worked on by Mr. Mottishaw, who added flexibility to it, long before I acquired it)

I like my Danitrio kaijin as it is fairly uncommon and has that lovely large nib.

Namiki Emperor (red or black urushi) is magnificent, truly oversize. Unfortunately not much practical (eyedropper).
