The Power Of Fountain Pens In Cartoons

line

Recommended Posts

Uncle Scrooge McDuck produced fountain pens in a story called "The Mighty Pen". The story was published in the early 80ies. Unfortunately I don't understand the Language on this drawing, but here is some info about it (click on the photo to get to the website):

Another "mighty" pen is in this cartoon where the fountain pen is used as a means to get power (click on the photo to get to the website):

Do you know other cartoons with fountain pen themes?

I believe it says something like

"Don't be disquieted! You haven't overlooked any detail!"

"Hum! That's what you say! Myself, I remain cautious!"

Nice images! Only other "cartoon" I can remember FPs in is 101 Dalmatians, when somebody accidentaly flushes a FP straight on Cruela's coat.

Thank you for answering! I'll look up Cruella's fountain pen accident :-)

There was this pen (Platinum Century 3776 as the design has been redrawn nearly identically) in an anime, though technically not cartoon, but kind of cool that an animator would not only show a fountain pen in the series, but to replicate an exact model.

The anime is an adaptation of the first four novels of Hyōka(氷菓)

Most appearances of fountain pens in cartoons that I remember show them being used to squirt a massive amount of ink from a lever-filler.

No references, just memories.

My other pen is a Montblanc.

You mean a bit like this :D

Yesterday is history.

Tomorrow is a mystery.

Today is a gift.

That's why it's called the present

Oh, yes, the 101 Dalmatians pen. When Cruela DeVille pulls out her pen and starts to write a check for the puppies, finds her pen won't start. So she shakes it and splatters all over Roger. Asks what the amount is and is told "No Sale".

In "The Aristocats", Disney does a lovely bit with the lawyer, writing Duchess' new will. He, very precisely, brings out his huge fountain pen, undoes the cap, and posts it. All with meticuluous precision and through the myopic lenses of his glasses. A very lovable character.

Of course, I am familar with the Disney animation. I have a three-year-old granddaughter.

Enjoy,

Yours,
Randal

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

Just like on the Three Stooges.

Man could those pens shoot ink.

For the uninitiated, here's a link to the black and white short movie with prerequisite fp squirt from a most elegant looking woman in fur directly into the postmaster's face - bottom of the linked page has the youtube clip. (Squirt about 1 min 20 secs in.)

A cartoon strip by Max Fleischer featuring Koko the Klown, one of the characters created by Fleischer for his earlier animated series Out of the Inkwell (1918–1929), in which animated characters such as Koko and Betty Boop would emerge from an inkwell and interact with their artist/creator...

There's a lot more comic possibilities with a fountain pen (especially in the proximity of white shirts) than its modern replacement, the stylus.
