Help Identifying A Vintage Sheaffer Mechanical Pencil -- And Is It Broken?!

Hello!

I hope this is the right place to post...

My mom bought what appears to be a vintage Sheaffer mechanical pencil earlier today. We aren't sure what year it was produced, or what model it is... A friend said it might be a tuckaway. I've attached 2 photos below. The pencil is only about 105mm (4 1/8in) long.

It doesn't have an eraser, so I'd like to replace that if at all possible, and buy some lead for it (beyond what the seller provided) so that she can continue to use the pencil.

We brought it to the bookstore, and purchased some 0.9mm lead, but the stick just slips right back out, so I am assuming that it takes 1.1 and not 0.9... Anyway, I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me in identifying this pencil, and/or what lead to buy for it, so that we can get it writing again.

If it helps, the gold band on the top says Sheaffer's -- Made in U.S.A., and the black part says W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO. Fort Madison, Iowa, USA Made in USA, and then a little below that, SA

Thank you!

This model is in fact a Tuckaway, specifically a Tuckaway Crest. Tuckies were made in the 40s, this one probably in the late 40s. "Crest" indicates Sheaffer's line of pens with gold filled caps that were made in short Tucky models as well as in full size. They are Sheaffer's premium quality, higher priced models. Google it for more info.

Erasers can be found on eBay, but I don't know how fresh they'd be. Maybe someone else can direct you to a good source.

Yup, Sheaffer Tuckaway Crest, which probably was originally part of a set. I believe these pens load from the point end. The leads in the barrel were for storage. See the instructions at the bottom of the link below for more information.
