Oh, that nib is gorgeous! The pen too, I would say after my Parker 51 awakening.

Thanks for your nice words, line, and I can see that you have not just jumped, but cannonballed into the deep sea of Parker 51! Wonderful nibs you have shown us so far.

You could try the "Pictures & Pen Photography" sub forum, but I haven't checked it much myself. I will when I can.

I think your photo above looks nice. The writing is very clear. I find doing the pen and the writing in the same shot and to have both come out well is hard, as grainweevil said.

When I take photos of pens during daytime, I tend to use the light from our big glass stacker doors at the back of the house facing north (southern hemisphere), and I try to avoid direct sunlight if I can, because shiny pens + direct sun = glare! My Lamy 27 was done that way.

When it is night time and I want to take pen photos I use my CFL lights with daylight 5500 kelvin. I have them aim from both sides so as to avoid big shadows.

I hope that helps a little?

A pair of black beauties. Quite nice. And not to be pedantic, because Sheaffer's naming systems are so arcane at times, but if that one on the right is the vacuum-fil and has an open nib, then it is the much more rare Sovereign. I have one and those giant open nibs are gorgeous. They were only made in 1948 as a sort of experiment. Mine is also black and one of my two vacuum-fil pens.

Nice to know that!!! I've bought this pen (now Sovereign ;) ), by 2 1/2 bucks... After some research, I think that is a Statesman open nib, but I think now that you're right... There are at least one topic here in FPN showing differences...

TKS!!!

I think you ticked the boxes with all three criteria with this photo, Houston. If I remember correctly you have a nice big window in your study (from the photo you showed us of you and your puppy sitting, puppy on your lap), so there will be no need to get your tush moving from your study. :) Perfect!

Ah, well... Sadly, my tush wasn't in my study when this was taken. It being a weekday, I'm at the orifice, and that photo was taken at a lovely floor-to-ceiling window. The window in my study is lovely, but is also shaded rather completely by some towering trees of which I'm rather fond. So, the search for a set-up that will give me great window-light-type results continues...

Wow is that the result of having ESSRI in the pen all the time? I can see yours is well loved, and I noticed that you use it for most of your ink drawings. I have the same pen but something went wrong with the cap and it always hits the nib so I stopped using it a while ago.

Oh that's a bummer. :)

But that is a good light you have there at your um, work place. While you search for a perfect set-up at home, that is a really good alternative for taking photos.

You would be VERY happy with the mustard colored Kullock 51 when it is filled with Kwizi "Old Gold" I call it a "nice match" in mine!

Mostly successful, I think. Need to adjust exposure a bit, and see if I can eliminate a hot-spot/shadow or two, but this is far better than my recent snaps, and it's not more than an additional 30-60 seconds effort to set up.

You could try a polarizer to eliminate the glare. That's a good-looking pen, though. I have long had my eye on one of those.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

This is one of the nicest nib/pen/ink/paper/handwriting combinations I have seen

Which ink are you using?
