Ancient Copper - Diamine

I have mixed feelings about Diamine inks - I like the variety of colors and their intensity but many of them aren't well behaved (they tend to clog pens, cause nib creep / nib crud).

Ancient Copper has amazing color that I enjoy a lot but it causes terrible nib creep / nib crud. It's almost artistic in its expression:

visvamitra, you poor soul!

I've had (until Terracotta replaced it a couple of weeks ago) Diamine's Ancient Copper in my TWSBI VAC 70 for over a year, solid, never flushed out, never cleaned and never saw anything like your nib crud.

 

I did own Diamine Orange which did nothing but crud up my pens and was forced to pass it on.

 

I hope your pen cleans up.

 

Try another pen? Perhaps the one you're using is allowing too much air or something in to make nastiness.

Well it caused problems in every single pen I've filled with it (cheap pens and more expensive ones like Graf von Faber-Castell Guilloche). I just won't use this ink although I enjoy the color

I've experienced this crusting behaviour in some of my pens, but not others - the more airtight the seal on the cap, the less of a problem it seems to be. Other factors like climate and especially humidity may come into play too, though?

I love this colour, and yes the nib crud has been frustrating, but it won't stop me enjoying AC.

I had crud with the Ancient Copper and in my real life, that means unphotoshopped, unNikoned, it's just an uninteresting brown without the red/coppery aspect. It not worth using for me and got Sailor Kobe Arima Amber to replace it.

Love the colour. I've only tried it in one pen so far (a Noodler's Konrad) and it has really, really bad clog problems. I'm hoping to try it in somethung else with better results.

I have a sample of the ink and worked up some courage to put it in a pen - an Elysee.

 

Been in now for over a week now with very little use - deliberately so.

No crust.

 

However, not sure that I'd put it in another pen.

Vis... those pictures are disturbing. I have this ink.. and love the color, to the point that I am willing to accept some nib creep.. But, I only get some nib creep, not the nib crud you are showing.

 

 

Maybe I should test this ink on several pens. I had it on a couple of pens and only experienced nib creep, which is quite easy to wipe off.

I get some nib crud as well. Recently I got the Diamine 1864 Terracotta ink, which looks like a less saturated version of this ink (in my opinion), so I prefer to use that. Haven't had any problems with nib crud or creep with Terracotta yet.

I find Ancient Copper a rather fussy ink. I got it because so many were singing its praises but was initially rather disappointed.

 

After trying a number of pens I have found that it needs a really wet nib to give its incredible shading and it is prone to producing that crud unless the cap is airtight. However, the crud does just wipe off.

 

I have an MB146 which must be nearly 30 years old and which I had rather fallen out of love with. That gets on just fine with Ancient Copper and has been busy doing Christmas card duty over the weekend.

I really like this ink. I use it in two of my pens right now. I've had a bit of caking on one nib. It cleaned up easily with a paper towel and hasn't returned but I do keep an eye out for it. BUT I have to say it is still my favorite ink.

I seldom use DAC because it's not the sort of color that I want very often, but it has always been a flawless ink for me in every single pen I have used it in. I have a full backup bottle that I ordered earlier in the year. Perhaps I should fill once from it to see if the crystallization occurs with it.

It was one of my pens. It was some chinese cheapo called Huahong that I enjoyed but over a year the lacquer went off the barrel and then the plastic tube inside the cap broke so I send it to FP heaven

Man, it's just like my J Herbin 1670 Rouge.

 

It crude and creeps every pen I tried it in except my Sailor Black Emperor with Zoom nib.

 

May try it in a diff pen.

 

Love the color, I will have to try it.

Strange, I've used it in four pens with no problems.
