A Vintage Bottle Of Pelikan Ink

Recommended Posts

I just bought a vintage bottle of black Pelikan ink, it is a tall, very large bottle. What did I get? It is written in German....

"Pelikan

feinste wasserfeste

Auszieh-Tusche

Perltusche

Schwarz"

I understand only Schwarz...

On the side of the bottle, there is a very long explanation, that would take me too long to write down and then a warning:

"Vor Frost zu schützen!" :yikes:

Is this ink for a typewriter? Better ask before loading a pen

Thank you!

I'm not very good with German but I've learned some in my dealings with Pelikan. "Feinste wasserfeste" I belive means finest waterproof. "Schwartz" as you said is black. That warning means, "Protect from freezing." That's all I know I'm afraid. Do you have a picture?

Sorry to tell you, but it's not ink for a Fountain Pen. It is waterproof, non-fading drawing ink which can with the use of distilled water be diluted to the shade you desire. So, if you use dip pens, and you like to draw black, shades of grey, and white pictures you are in luck, otherwise, not so much.

I agree with Parker51. This does not seem to be fountain pen friendly stuff from what I can glean from the bottle. It strikes me as being India Ink.

Thank you. I will use it with dip pens. I would have never filled a Pelikan without knowing for sure :) but I might try it in a TWSBI one day.

Parker 51, does it says it is drawing ink? Sargetalon, why do you think it it is India ink? I have a bottle of Pelikan India ink, the small glass one. Maybe this bottle was to refill the small ones?

right, it IS india ink. no use in fountain pens. "Ausziehtusche" means india ink, for technical drawings, architectural drawings, etc... Waterproof and non fading in sunlight. Slso used by artists, cartoonists etc...

Pelikan did manufacture india ink for fountainpens as well, it's called "fount india".

But your bottle is very decorative.

Thank you Christof! I must learn some German, but today I know one more word, "Ausziehtusche"!
