90Th Anniversary 149 Skeleton

Got a chance to finally see it in person today and play around a little with it. I have to admit, it is really cool.. Perfect design and color scheme for a skeleton if I ever imagined one.

 

But I was also less impressed than I expected. Can't get my head around why though. Let me all know what you guys think.

Maybe it is the feeling that it isn't a limited edition? At the end it is about the whole package and special feeling you have to get before spending that amount of money.

Don't know, haven't seen it in real yet. I still think it is a nice looking pen in the pics.

The US Montblanc site actually shows this pen online now along with a few other models not previously shown. I find it fascinating that they use ruthenium plating on a pen this expensive. As others have brought up before, it seems the price doesn't reflect the materials but yet the availability. I also think the nib clashes with the whole pen and would love for this to be all rose/red gold. Maybe they tried that and it didn't look right, I don't know. That's just my take. Aside from the nib, I would love this pen the way it is with a matching colored nib!

Doesn't do a thing for me. Andrew Carnegie Patron of the Arts is more what I'd love to have.

Had a shot to pick one up, but I really don't like the nib combo'd with the body of the pen. For nine grand I can pick up several VERY nice pens. This would have had to be a pen that I fell in love with the second I saw it to pull the trigger. Maybe a special ruthenium nib available only on this pen would have put it over the top, or something other than the quartz star (diamond, ruby, sapphire, etc...) would have caught my eye a bit more.

 

 

Not having a JP Morgan 888 in my collection and with Bonhams having a San Francisco Fine Writing Instruments auction coming up in December, I decided to keep saving my pennies.

If I were to ever pay that much for a pen, I'd want the nib to match the body. I think the rose-gold nib is out of place and should have been ruthenium instead like the Daniel Defoe.

For my taste it is Way too light - and the Touch of the material is like plastic. Cheap appearance compared to other skeletons.
