"mintgreen" Recycled Notebook

I was in Staples getting some paper for my printer, when I wandered into the notebook aisle. I know most of the notebooks sold there aren't fountain pen friendly, but I figured I'd browse to see if there was anything new.

This notebook caught my eye, priced at $5.79. Curiously, I googled the type of notebook in the store on my iPod touch. I couldn't find anything. But the paper isn't like normal notebook paper found in 5 Star notebooks. It is thick, not quite cardstock but still has much more substance. I don't know enough about paper to know what weight it might be. It feels very crisp and smooth. I took a chance and bought one of the notebooks.

I'm home, and have tried to use google-fu to find information on my laptop, and am turning up nothing. The notebook isn't on the Staples website, which is rather odd. I guess I shall test it out later to see if it is fountain pen friendly. I only have three inks at the moment, Parker Quink (black), Noodler's Bad Belted Kingfisher, and Noodler's Fox. It will make the testing somewhat limited.

I took some pictures. The only information is on the label, and it is somewhat limited.

If anyone else can find more information, I'd love to know. Perhaps I am looking in the wrong place!

Not sure what information you are looking for. I googled Clementine Paper, Inc., the company that made?distributed?discovered? mintgreen. It seems to be based in Culver City, California, and is variously listed as a paper mill or a paper and stationery distributor. The fact that the notebook you purchased says it was made in Taiwan confuses the matter somewhat - Unlikely that a papermill in the USA sends pulp to Taiwan so the paper can be made, lol. I looked up "Clementine Paper Taiwan;" zepol.com lists Clementine as a US importer of goods from China and Taiwan. "Mintgreen" is a trademark owned by Clementine since 2005, according to another site. Amazon sells some Mintgreen recycled notecards, too, but nothing else under that company/brand label.

So, you need to be our guinea pig and test out the paper for us, even if you do have limited inks to try. :D

Of course, if the only place that these notebooks are available are at the Staples near your house, most of us will be disappointed if it turns out that the paper is wonderful, but it would still be nice to know anyway.

All the information available (or lack thereof) on this specific notebook is rather confusing. I found some of that information, too. And notecards for sale as well, but not the same type of notebook. I think production is discontinued. But I'd never seen it stocked before, so how can it be discontinued but only now being sold? Mysterious!

I've tried it out, and there is zero bleed through (even when I applied ink heavily on purpose). Not even any shade of see through! But the ink feathers some. Not terrible feathering, I think. I'm mulling over getting a few more for note taking this coming semester. I like the sturdy covers, spiral binding that shouldn't deform even when squashed amongst textbooks, and the heavier paper.

I hope that this isn't too late a reply but just recently I have been searching the vast web and found this topic. I happened upon mintgreen journals, notebooks, and planners at walmart a week ago and am on the search for their full sized planner, which I purchesed but only found one of, so I know that, at least in my local walmart, you can find these notebooks and what not.

Hi, I don't know if you're familiar with Green Room Eco (they sell notebooks, folders, etc) at Target. They used to sell planners that I was OBSESSED with and this year was the last year apparently and they discontinued them. I don't know why since I loved their design, simplicity, and PRICE. So I had emailed them a couple months ago when I finished with my current planner (they went by academic year so ended in June). This was their response:

"Unfortunately, Target is not carrying our Greenroom academic planners this year.

However, we are producing a new line of recycled 2014-15 planners sold under the Mintgreen brand that offers a similar design sensibility and high level of quality. Wal-Mart will carry the 2014-15 Mintgreen planners towards the end of June as part of their Back to School Offering."

They are very similiar (from the photos they had sent me) except the designs are geared to a younger audience it seems. I have only seen a few pocket sized notebooks from the Mintgreen brand at Walmart so haven't gotten a chance to see the planner in person yet.

Hope this helped!

Oh that looks like a good find. I like twin ring notebooks personally. I wonder if they come in any other sizes? I like the smaller A5-ish sizes, as they are more portable for me. I'll have to check my local Walmart and Staples and keep an eye out. Thanks

Walmart sells an Mintgreen 7.5 x 10 in. Dot rule 3 subject spiral notebool that I thought would be wonderful. However it feathers and bleeds with medium or wider nibs or any flex nib. :-( It also has a floral pattern cover.

I was going to say thank goodness I don’t need to buy another notebook because the color is not mint. But now that I see it can be bought at Walmart, I might look at it. Walmart is quite close to where I live whereas Staples is across the state line. Mind you, that isn’t far (MO/KS).

When I see a new notebook I lose interest as soon as I see the word recycled. Usually rules out general FP friendliness.
