Sailor My First Fountain Pen

legitimate3

Recommended Posts

I recently saw the new Sailor pen on Jetpens (I don't know if I'm allowed to link it), I waited to make a thread about it because I thought somebody else would ask about it, but I don't think anybody has. Has anybody tried the bent nib? I think it looks really cool. I haven't see a review of it on the internet yet.

The pen set comes with 2 nibs, a fine-medium and a special bent nib.

I am not familiar with the pen in question but the bent type nib is often referred to as a "fude." If you search that word you will find a number of references here on FPN.

It's basically the crystal with a Fude nib and a F nib added into the the package + 3 cartridges and a plain black with colored clip in color I tried the fude nib it's fun to use if you like writing with chinese caligraphy or you can make awesome signatures HAHAHAHAHA

parents will buy this for their children in school if they have chinese caligraphy class without having to buy the fude de mannen meaning the price of 2 pens in 1 package deal

in related note has anyone tried the 33 degree angle fude de mannen I might get that one instead... I also have the 55 degree angle fude de mannen but its too "steep" for me its not the price but the angle of writing with the pen reminds me of using chinese brush pens *shudder*

question is what angle of the fude nib did they use

I have the Sailor Fude nib pen.

Mine is a very inexpensive version which I bought from The Writing Desk in the UK http://www.thewritingdesk.co.uk/showproduct.php?brand=Sailor&range=Calligraphy+pen&cat=pens

Fascinating pen but quite difficult to write decently with it and no way have I mastered it as yet. Good for doodling at my present skill level.

Pens and paper everywhere, yet all our hearts did sink,

Pens and paper everywhere, but not a drop of ink.

I own two fude nib pens. I tried to like them, but I have not yet mastered the art of using them.

For now, I'm focusing on writing my Chinese with regular pens and pencils. Maybe when I get better at it, I'll come back to these pens.

Has anyone tried my first fountain pen from sailor? Is the fude nib more bent than the two other inexpensive Sailor ones? And can the nib be interchanged with the Clear Candy range?

Sailor two different nib angles (that I know of) the one on the Sailor Calligraphy pen http://www.andys-pens.co.uk/sailorcal.shtml I think is the 50 degree bend, Sailor also offer two Fude de Mannen pens http://www.andys-pens.co.uk/fude.shtml which are cheaper, the blue pen has a 50 degree bend and the green a 40 degree bend, they're about half the price of the Calligraphy pen and other than looking more basic do the same job.

As to whether thy're interchangeable I'm not sure as I the only other Sailor pen I have is a Sapporo Mini but the nib looks like a standard nib so it may be possible.

I have a Sailor 1911M with a Zoom nib, but it's the only sailor I've tried, and the Zoom nib is not a 'fude' nib (I tend to see those on the cheaper pens as sort of a means of imitating a calligraphy brush, very gimmicky in my opinion as I have tried a fude on some chinese pens).

The 'Z' nib does do different line width, but not to the style/extent of a fude nib, but it's a lot easier to write with for everyday purposes.

I've not seen any of the cheaper sailors around here (ie: under $50) and none really particularly interested me.

I have two cheap chinese fude nibs. The one from DUKE has a similarly steep angle like the one in the right photo. I can get two line variations out of it: Fine & Super-Broad.

The other one, from a LANBITOU pen: Here the angle is less steep, it writes better & I can get 4 - 5 line variations out of it, from XF to F to M to B to Super- Broad.

That`s the nib I love for sketching. I`ve been wondering if an upgrade to a Sailor 14 K Fude nib would be worth it, but don`t know if it behaves more like the Duke or the Lanbitou nib.

Does anyone has one of those expensive Sailor specialty nibs & gets more then 2 or 3 line variations out of it?

The various writing samples here on the forum seem to suggest that most of those nibs write either XF-F on one, and BBB on the other side (so basically only 2 different line widths), even though the various nibs look quite different (tip bent upwards, downwards, bird peak look etc.)

Anyone?

What would be the most versatile of the Sailor Specialty nibs?
