Sheaffer Targa Converter

Hello.

 

I've just recently acquired a Sheaffer Targa from my grandmother, who had passed away. It came with an empty ink cartridge that seemed quite loose. My question is, would a modern Sheaffer piston converter work in place of the old ink cartridge

Yes, a standard Sheaffer converter should fit there just fine as it doesn't appear to be one of the Slimline Targas and the cartridge looks standard as well.

Glad to hear that as I asked a pen store in NYC and they said the piston convertor would not fit

Piston converters fit in all my Targas. None are Slimlines.

sheaffer full-size Targas can be fitted with older press-bar or 'modern' sheaffer converters.

To me it seems to be a slimline. I sold mine, because it's too hard to find matching cardriges or a converter.

If it were a slim Targa it would a] have a flat clutch/trim ring and b] would not be able to take a standard cartridge as this one has.

 

Either converter would fit.

I've bought a modern Sheaffer converter which works quite well in this. By the way, has anyone seen a classic Sheaffer Matte black? So far, I've only seen the slimline versions.

Yup, got one. Bought it new a L-O-N-G time ago. It was my everyday pen way back then and it looks it. One of these days I gotta get a new nib for it. Then again, I have two other Targas, so if I really want to use it I can just swap nibs.

I will try to look for a NOS Slimline Matte black, as I think the design looks very nice.
