Eyedropper Measurement

Hello all, does anyone know how many drops from an eyedropper would equal a ml?

I would like to do some ink mixing and do not have a wayto measure ml's.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Bill

It really depends on the eyedropper. A cheap way to measure ml is with a disposable syringe that you can easily obtain from a pharmacy for less than half a franc aprox. 55 us cents. WARNING be careful not to get pricked by the needle.

If you have kids in my part of the world...you've undoubtedly dosed them with Amoxicillin(sp?). We have about 20 of these things in the kitchen junk drawer - no needles but they come in 5ml and 10 ml. They produce a really nice jet stream and the opening often fits right on the little protrusion the converter connects to.

I'm sure any pharmacist on the planet has bags full of these things. A kind word and smile might just get you one for free.

During any one-hour period, in the hands of the same person, one driop from any

eyedropper is a consistent unit of measure. In mixing inks, proportions are more

important than actual quantities. If you desire specific quantities, invest in a syringe.

You will find it useful in filling cartridges with your mixtures.

It depends on the size of the drops but about 20-25 drops should be close 1 ml.

I did my undergrad in biochem. We were taught that 20 drops would come to a ml usually. (yeah, YMMV!)

I get 25 drops of distilled water from a glass eye dropper.

One of the labs I have my Chemistry students do involves measuring how many drops make up 1 mL. They get numbers anywhere from 20-40 drops. It depends on the dropper and the student.

If measurement matters, I wouldn't use drops to estimate.

The eyedropper drip is fit for producing very small volumes for swabs & dip pen sampling and dilution, but when producing volumes over ~2ml, I suggest using a calibrated syringe. (Remember to use PPE when blending/mixing inks.)
