Rotring Fountain Pens Part I

write to me often

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am collecting rotring fountain pens for a while and I had some trouble finding the model names. So I started making an inventory for that. Maybe it helps.

Cheers,

I had a look at the blog post you linked to and was momentarily confused when I couldn't understand what the text said :-)

There used to be a Rotring Esprit, which confusingly doesn't seem to bear much resemblance to the Parker Esprit, even though both Parker/Waterman and Rotring have the same owner.

Dear Aramchek,

If you just scroll down, you can see the English text over there.

I have some other Rotring pens as well so I will make Part II including Rotring Esprit and Esprit Retractable (Telescobic)

Oh, I did do that. I was just initially puzzled since I hadn't expected the text to be in a language I don't understand and still had my mind "set to English".

I'm a big fan of Rotring fountain pens, too. Do you have a favorite?

I have four Surfs, two Initials, two Cores, two Freeways, one Esprit, one Newton and one Newton Lava. But it's my yellow Surf, one of my first pens, that is most oft inked.

My so far favorite is Rotring 700. It seems really thin and a bit heavy but interestingly very comfortable in my hand. Other than that, I have 700, 900, Esprit, Esprit Retractable, Freeway, Lacquer, Renaissance, Initial, Brushed Gold(?), Chiselled Silver(?), Newton and a Tintenkuli Stylograph.

I need a 400, a Lava and a Lambda which is very rare.

Hi,

Do you have the Primus? It's a sister of the Core. I have both a Primus and a Core.

Here is my Primus:

(This is the first time I have heard about it. A nice looking pen, I don't know how many fountain pens did they produce)

It's easier to find if you have a Dutch friend. They only came as a fountain pen or 2.0 mm pencil.

I have this version in Gold. And at FPN, in the review index it was referred as Brushed metal, unknown :)

I sent photos of this pen to Rotring via Turkish distributor along with two other undefined models but still no answer from the company.

Amazon Germany is offering one : http://www.amazon.de/gp/offer-listing/B001AM4M4W/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all

Delivery within Germany only, for unspecified reasons. Pen is out of production. If you have relatives or a friend in Germany you might order through them.

Thank you very much Frits B :)

I will arrange someone I hope.

I bought a Surf for a few pounds the other week. It's a great little pen.

Dear Andyroo,

I am also in love with Surf. Very durable, a smooth writer and cheap. I always think that it is important to evaluate a brand with the cheap pen not the most expensive ones.

The only other Rotring fountain pens I have are the Artpen Calligraphy set. Those write nicely too but the Artpen ink carts almost flood through the pen, I found Diamine carts worked better.

One of the best nibs I have ever used!

I actually have two of these fountain pens - constantly in use.

The "M" nib is actually quite fine and extremely firm.

Beautiful wet line, consistent... a joy to write with.

Actually, I am in love with Diamine inks. They always work problem free nearly in every pen.
