Twsbi Leaking. Ink? Help!

Recommended Posts

I just got my first two FPs. A TWSBI 580 mini with M nib and a Lamy Safari with XF nib.

The safari uses a catridge and the TWSBI uses J Herbin Perle Noire ink.

I like the TWSBI better in how smooth it writes, the looks, how thick it is etc. Of course my girlfriend immediately claimed it. I have

been using the Safari zero problems.

But the TWSBI leaks all over the place! It started when i was using it, just leaking into the cap, which drove me nuts to no end because the cap is clear.

But she just gave it back because when she opens the pen the nib has ink all over it and it leaks onto her papers.

To answer a couple of common questions i found while searching leaking topics

carried nib up? we dont carry them we work in an office at desks. So the pens lie on the desk on their side

Ink used? see pic

does it happen with other inks? not sure i only just discovered FPs and only bought one ink well

is the pen used? no its brand new from TWSBI

My next purchase was going to be a twsbi vac but i may stick to catridge pens if they are less likely to leak :(

That is very leaky. Neither of my 580s leak unless I wave and flick them about.

I think you may want to try a different ink, but there could be something going on here with the heat of your hand warming the ink/air in the chamber making it expand.

I should mention in the last pic, that ink did not just drip off of the pen, but i set the pen on a peice of paper and gave it a soft whack against the table to dislodge the ink so as to show

how much was on the nib

* didnt whack the nib, just the plastic body

I can see the ink as the cap as normal especially if it was in a purse or something but that looks like way too much ink to leak from a nib even if you did tap it. I have my 580 and I have both a fine and medium nib and I've never had a leaking problem though TWSBI has a great customer service and their repairs are fast I've had to send mine back twice and it took maybe 7 days at most to ship it and have it shipped back to me.
