Frank Lloyd Wright Colours

I have a new set of lovely Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired stationery on it's way. In the interest of keeping true to the theme, I'm looking for a little inspiration. What inks do you think best match Frank Lloyd Wright's specific colour palette?

Cherokee red (widely used as one of two colors at Fallingwater) would be perfect. Now what ink would be Cherokee red?

maybe Diamine Oxblood?

When I think of THE Frank Lloyd Wright colors, I think Cherokee red and cream/stucco. A dark moss green and a very dark taupe/sepia would also fit.

I'd think Cherokee red would be your first choice. It would need to be a dark red with brownish tones. Any blue or pinkish tones would be a no-no.

I'm thinking Diamine Oxblood looks good for it.

A slightly out-of-left-field choice might be PR Ebony Purple. What color is the stationery? Could you maybe post a link or scan?

I found this here:

When I designed and made a needlepoint piece inspired by Kentuck Knob, I brought in a bunch of other colors, and based on that chart, I done good!

I put this together using the Goulet swab shop. I subbed Diamine Eclipse in for Ebony Purple because if how it looks on screen. In my experience, Eclipse is basically black and Ebony Purple looks more like that swatch of Eclipse.

Elizabeth in NJ, that's a gorgeous palette. I could see using those inks as a basic lineup, FLW or not.

There are also primary red and blue, e.g. in the Coonley windows.

From the Fallingwater site:

Only two colors were used throughout: a light ochre for the concrete and his signature Cherokee red for the steel.

What a great idea.

There are a lot of Frank Lloyd Wright homes in my area, some public like the Robie House, and many in private hands that I've had the pleasure of visiting. A childhood friend lived in one, in fact. I think of the browns (from his woodwork) along with autumn colors generally, like J. Herbin Ambre de Birmanie or R&K Alt Goldgrun, and also red-browns, like russet.

Don't forget to look at the stained glass windows he designed, much of which has been removed from the buildings. And the Art Institute of Chicago probably has some of his work from their collection online.

Yeah, ol' Frank was an amazing graphic designer.

I "borrowed" this book on stained glass and light screens from my best bud years and years ago. I live in fear that she'll remember that I have it and ask for it back!

If you're not familiar with his light screens, do yourself a favor and do a google image search on "frank lloyd wright light screens."

Thanks. :) I use many of those colors, myself. I've been meaning to get Oxblood, and it just moved way up the list. I've had a sample, and it's really nice!

Thank you all for your input. I'm very familiar with the lovely colour schemes he employed in his designs and windows, but was curious to see what inks you all thought would match with those colours. There are some great suggestions here!

The stationery I ordered is all off-white, with an embossed design. There is a set of note cards (see the link below) as well as a custom designed, embossed set of note pages and matching envelopes - photos will have to wait until they arrive. Because they are so plain, any of these lovely colours will work well, I think. I'm loving the suggestions of J. Herbin Ambre de Birmanie and De Atramentis Charles Dickens. Thanks again!

For those interested, the link to the cards is here: http://www.papyrusonline.com/frank-lloyd-wright-house-beautiful-notes.html
