Messy Handwriting Help!

Hello!

Firstly I have attached samples of my handwriting. I like the general style of my writing but it tends to be really messy. The first part is my way of cleaning it up but it is a lot more time consuming to write that way and I don't feel it retains quite the character of my writing. I think I have to strike a better balance between messiness and legibility. So what do you Penmanship experts recommend I do?

I like your handwriting. It is legible and friendly. My 2¢ - see what you get with a medium or broad nib.

Hm, interesting...your "messy" handwriting is very nearly as legible than your cleaned-up writing and looks a lot better. I think you lose a lot of the style when you try to make it neat. I like the longer ascenders and descenders and the sort of spiky quality of your regular style.

 

Your slant is all over the place. Making that more consistent will help it look neater. And then working on keeping letter and ascender/descender heights even. That means practice practice practice. Your letter forms aren't consistent, but frankly, I like it that way.

I can read your handwriting. What would you change about it ?

So, slow down and form the letters the way you wish them to appear.

Be deliberate. If you want the loop of your 'Y' larger, take time to make it larger, or rounder.

Do you want the ' + ' to be semetrical ? Take time to write it so.

 

I college, I learned to write fast. In correspondance, I learned to write carefully.

 

You have control. Make it look the way you desire.

The only thing wrong I see is literally your slant. Maybe have a look at the position of the paper in relation to your arm?
