Very nice collection. Had one for a while but the nib was way too stiff for me. Ended up selling it to someone else.

I have trouble filling them too. Grrr. You have no idea which way you're turning the "piston" and it makes a scaree awful sounding noise when you get to the end. I'm sure I'm going to wear out the converters all the faster because of it. I had better luck with a cart, which I may do more often to save wear on the converters.

As far as the reverse whale shark, well I cried a little inside when that post went up. I want one SO MUCH I CAN TASTE IT!!! But I am also resigned to having a near zero chance of ever finding one, or any other prototype Intrigue. I do still have an eBay search to watch for Intrigues. Since there aren't all that many, it's not any trouble to keep an eye out for new listings. Doesn't help that the prototype came from somewhere else, but there's only so much I can do!

You can often get one for a lot less than the original list, so I figured I'd get one of each while the gettings still good.

Great photo. Thanks for posting it.

The Intrigue gets my vote for most underrated modern pen. I like the name too.

I had a bright blue one for a while. Wrote nicely. Filling system was too smart for its own good: would have been fine as a normal cartridge/converter. Hard to understand the filling instructions. I probably filled it by accident...push down here, pull up there, then twist, but make sure the teeth engage. And that weird shape of the cap was finally the end. Was walking down the sidewalk, took the Intrigue out to write a note, pushed the cap on "wrong" so the cap popped out of my hand, bounced into the street, and down a drain.

Great detail on the section and nib, nice balance.

Underrated: agreed. 14k nib (18k on the LEs), and it's easy easy easy to find them NOS for under $200. Yeah, they're nails. But I find most of the Sheaffer inlaid nibs to be nails. Nice and smoooooth nails. Works for me!

Bummer about your cap. Sorry I laughed, but I did feel bad about it.

It is a tiny bit annoying to have to put the cap on just the right way. But I love the looks of the pen, so I suffer for my beauty. ;)

What was retail on the Intrigues, anyway? I really don't have a range to go by, except what they go for on ebay, which is pretty varied.

Okay...I was thinking I heard $150-$200, but this article says MSRP $140 often discounted to $100. Still, I have gotten a few for just under $100, including my LE gold (!!!!!), a whale shark, a chrome/gunmetal, and a petrol.

I don't think I've seen any for much less than that $140-150 range. Maybe you have to catch them when they pop up. Plenty of them going for that or more right now though.

Today a 613 - Bright Blue/Matte Blue went for about $85. It's probably my least favorite of the bunch, so I maxed out my bid at around $21. Glad someone got a nice pen for a good price.

Indeed the name fits

I have the Palladium - aubergine as it is called here.

Filling system is finnicky.

I bought mine NOS without box or papers, and I had some problems finding the way to remove the converter and insert a cartridge.

Hardly ever use it, these days.

Yeah, I saw that one myself. But it also went beyond my highest bid- I'm not a huge fan of that blue. Hey RMN, you in the mood to sell your Aubergine? ^_^ That's one I definitely like the look of! PM me if you are open to parting with it?

It is NOT on my list of : "Pens I regret buying"

My Lamy 2000 and my Pilot Capless are on that list.... But sofar I keep them as a reminder to look better before buying and NOT go by the hullabaloo here on FPN.... You're a bunch of great gals and guys here, but sometimes my tastes just happen to differ.

Oooo. Interesting!

I love my Vanishing Points. They were my gateway pen. But for some unknown reason I hardly ever pull them out anymore. I have waaaay too many pens, which has something to do with it. I know that when I do use one I think, "I should use these more often." They've always been smooth and reliable for me. I wouldn't go so far as to say that everyone else should have one.

But the 2000. Yeah, it's an okay pen. I don't have any specific complaints (well, except that I find all piston fillers to be extremely annoying to flush). It's kinda cool that the 2000 still looks modern considering how long ago it was designed. But overall, it just doesn't call to me. I'd love to hear why you regret getting one.
