149 Demonstrator

This pen has been seen on several FPN threads in the past. I finally managed to wrestle it away from its previous owner and these photos represents it's Australian christening with Lavender Purple :)

It's interesting in that the demonstrator makes you look at things you wouldn't normally see. The support between the rings would normally be invisible.

The cap is actually intact - ridges on the middle section. The nib enclosure has been replaced with clear resin and there is a crack in the resin rather than the main body of the pen - from previous FPN posts, the resin was a pinkish colour for many years. There are a couple of small cracks in the base but the barrel is deceptive - its just the light reflecting off the ridges of the ink window. It writes beautifully.

Hello Adelaide,

What a beauty! Congratulations on your new pen. It is wonderful to see that pens have a second, a third, & seemingly unlimited lives with new owners.

If I may ask, what sort of sealant is in the pen? As you mentioned, the old Pepto Bismol pink bubble gum has been replaced. What's in there now?

Thank you for the nice photos.

Best wishes,

Barry

Thanks everyone. There is also an interesting twist to this demo. it has a very rare 1960s nib for the french market - discussed here: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?/topic/187008-vintage-149-tri-toned-18c-nibs/

Barry - the pink "gue" was replaced with clear acrylic sealant by a well known FPN master. Send me a PM if you want to know more.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time
