My Own Design Custom Made Pen Cabinet For 280 Pens !

Hello

This is my first post with pictures:-)

I would like to share pictures of the pen cabinet that I designed myself and had custom made recently.

It has space for 280 pens - 5 drawers - each takes 56 pens

It has doors that swing open and then retract inside - and it can be locked !!

It has shelf space below for anything really. What you see in the pics here are the older cases I used for 12 pens each before I got this cabinet

The lake you see in the picture above the cabinet is Tso Moriri - a lake in the indian Himalayas in a beautiful area called Ladakh. Its at an altitude of over 4000 meters.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsomoriri_Wetland_Conservation_Reserve

Even the largest of pens 6 inches plus are accomodated - and all the slots are the same size

The cabinet is made in plywood on which a steamed beach veneer is applied

the borders however are solid wood

The drawers are lined with a velvety cloth that I got from my sister who is a jeweller. She uses the material in her jewellery boxes.

Have added notes on some of the closeups of the drawers

Couldnt show my entire collection due to image upload limitations

The way I have grouped my pens may be interesting to some and I would love to know your ideas on how you group your pens

I have a vintage drawer where I have grouped according to the make and the country

Moderns i have grouped by color solely

And if I have any orange green or white pen that goes into my Indian Flag Colors group

Here are the pictures of 4 out of my 5 drawers with some captions inserted into the images.

And finally some select closeups of some "groups"

The first is the indian flag color group!!

Browns and Woods - just love these - look at the Bexley Poseidon Rosso Verde - reminds me of spagetti and meatballs with spinach thrown in. And ont miss the two lovely Fred Faggionatos - one in briar the other in cocobolo. My favorite is probably the stipula novocento cumberland (thanks Bryant !)

Deutsche Vintages (remind me of the world war movies - when I write with these I feel I'm a German General :-)) - theres a 126 PL, a 138 and a 139 in there.

And then the modern blacks including a lovely Edison Encore, a wellington from Conway which I think is wonderful, and a lovely Pendleton point Stipula novocento Ebano. And yes there are a lot of the semi hooded nib montblanc claasic/generation/221s in there too. My favorite from these is actually a yellow one which you will see in the "full drawer" pictures above

One of the pens that doesnt stand out in the pictures so much is one of my favorites and that is an OMAS LE BRESCIA - see if you can find it. Its Silver over black (ebonite I think) - just an incredible pen with lightly engraved work of the architecture from the town of BRESCIA

Would love it if others would share their cabinet/collection pictures / grouping philosophy in this post too

Regards

Rishi

A beautiful cabinet, congratulations, and a fine collection. Your drawers are filling up: you will soon need to add another one!

Well done.

Now I wonder how you made the interior of the drawers. (in more detail)

You used sanded wood ridges, and some cloth you got from your sis.

But how did you do this?

I have some cigar boxes and a tea box I would like to turn into pen cabinets.

I have been thinking how to get a nice cloth tightly over the ridges.

How did you do this?

I had it made by a professional to my concept and spec. Dont really know how he did that. I gave him the cloth.

Hello Rishi,

thanks for sharing the images. I assume that there will be more space for trays in the drawer. :-)

Wow, very impressive. You have a beautiful collection, thanks you for sharing.

Baap re!!!! Outstanding, Sir!!!! You are a connoisseur indeed. You should probably replace the small aircraft models with a large sailing ship or something; it will really set off the beautiful collection you have.

Thanks for posting pics. Would love to see some hi-res pics too!!.

Thanks and regards,
