Pelikan Converter Fits Mb Starwalker

After several years of owning a MB Starwalker, and being frustrated with the lack of an MB converter for it, I found that the Pelikan converter fits perfectly and performs very well!

Hopefully this helps anyone finding themselves in the same position I was in.

Pelikan C499 fountain pen converter ???????

The converter is only labelled "PELIKAN Germany". Unfortunately it came with no packaging to indicate a model number or which pens it's designed for. I simply brought a used MB cartridge with me to the stationary shop and compared the interface to be sure it looked similar.

I assumed there would be too, but a search came up empty for me. Please post a link if you know where it is.

It's perfect.

Thanks for sharing sigya! Nice to know the Faber-Castell converter fits as well. It actually looks, for all intents & purposes, identical to the Pelikan.

After a couple of weeks now of using my Starwalker daily with the Pelikan converter, I have noticed one small difference in performance between the converter & the MB cartridges. The converter seems to cause a light residue build-up of ink on and around the nib. It's not excessive, and it's nothing that a little wipe every few days doesn't take care of, but none the less, it's a little disappointing. :(

I noted that one of the main structural differences between the the Pelikan converter & the MB cartridges is the presence of a small ball bearing in the cartridge. Perhaps this acts like a 'valve' to prevent excessive flow during use? The absence of this 'valve' results in the ink residue? I wonder if anyone else has this experience and if they found a solution?

I was considering disassembling both the converter & placing a ball from a cartridge into it. Anyone tried this before?

I tried the Pelikan converter in my MB Starwalker 8481.No Joy!The converter fits perfectly in the nib housing nipple, BUT doesn't fit the barrel. The body of the converter is sl.wider than the barrel. Frustrating! I'll prob.try the Waterman converter.

Unhappy MB camper,

Joe

The ball in the converter is there to break surface tension should a bubble form when the pen is turned from nib up to nib down at the throat. It has no other purpose.

Good to know.

I recently reluctantly travelled by air with my Pelikan-equipped MB. I was afraid that I might have leakage issues with the converter but after several flights and stops at various altitudes between 0m to +1000m above sea level, I had absolutely no problems (to my pleasant surprise.). I even used it at 40,000ft without issue!
