Any item is only worth what you are willing to pay for it, so that is up to you. regarding the pen it is a late 50's export model 149. It has Masterpiece and not Meisterstuck on the cap band. It looks to be in nice shape but the seller does not mention whether or not it is working. It also does not state when the cork was last replaced. This pen will probably sell for between 1800-2000 and perhaps more IMHO.

Good luck if you decide to bid.

If I had the money I'd buy that right now, just as orfew said, that pen is worth around $1750.00. Also, it is a beautiful condition, I just saw one go for over $950 and it was literally chewed up.

I have a "silver rings" 149. They are truly beautiful but need to have been well looked after. As Orfew has quite correctly stated, you could be up for many hundreds of dollars in repairs to make it perfect - ask for more photos, specific details on its provenance if known. I paid a lot more for mine but it was perfectly restored and i knew that first. Pens like this do come up at auction at Swann Galleries or Bonhams from time to time.

In a way, he did say it takes in water so I would assume it works.

Yes. Looks nice.

I think that if I had that amount of disposable income and wanted such a pen - I'd take a chance on that one.

Fix your maximum bid and stick to it, though. Don't go falling in love with it and trying to outbid Bill Gates.

Good luck.

Agree - looks like a reasonable starting price to me. Pen is in great shape, has an unusual nib, looks like its working OK.

If it were mine, I wouldnt want to let it go for less that the initial starting price.

If i were the seller, i would have included a writing sample, because I guess that nib would have some flex in it ( my med 149 nib from the same later 50s era certainly does)

Best of luck, Paul
