S.t. Dupont Pen Identification And Help With Converter

Recommended Posts

My father gave me this pen, but he had no information about it. It had been given to him a number of years ago without any details. The markings on the pen say ST Dupont Lacque de Chine and it appears to be identical to the pen listed here.

Here are my (poor quality) pictures of it:

What can you tell me about this pen? Are there any do's and don'ts I should be aware of as I use/care for it? And finally, can you give me any recommendations on a converter to use with it? My google-foo is failing me completely...

That looks exactly like my favourite ST Dupont, but mine is in silver. I was wondering about that converter too, as ST Dupont doesn't seem to have the original converters anymore. They now have one standard model, which doesn't fit snugly on this particular pen.

This is a wonderful pen by the way, writes great (I have the F I think) and has only needed one repair in the 30 years that I had it.

Have you found a suitable converter yet?

The actual model name is Classique, I have a gold-plated one. jar is, as usual, quite correct; this model does take Parker cartridges or converters. Aurora should work as well. As far as I know, Dupont does still sell a short cartridge that fits the Montparnasse, Lady, Classique and Gatsby pens. It looks much like an international short but has a Parker-sized opening. Unfortunately, I can't find a US retailer for these anymore.

Hi all,

Finally took a better picture of the 2 Chinese characters that nobody seems to be able to translate so far. Any information is welcome. Also have 2 nib pictures. Top view shows gold stamp, etc., but the side of the nib has marking I do not recognize. that is best focus I could shoot. I may post a new topic again also, so please excuse any redundancy. Thanks!

I can't help you with the Chinese characters. But the marking stamped on the nib is a hallmark indicating that the maker of the nib certifies that the gold content is as marked. I have two Dupont pens with identical hallmarks, a Gatsby and a Classique. I'm pretty sure Dupont is one of the few pen manufacturers that makes their own nibs and that the hallmark you've pictured is a Dupont hallmark.

The Chinese characters say "duPont". Why that would be written on a pen that already has duPont written in the metal is beyond me. Also the writing on the band should read "laque"not lacque. There should also be a 7 digit number/ letter combination engraved on the side of the top of the clip.

Hi. Welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell.

Actually, on that era ST Duponts the serial number should have each character individually hand stamped.
