How To Open Stuck Fountain Pens

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have 4 pens,

1 Waterman 1903 eyedropper which I cannot open and where the mechanism for the hidden nib is also stuck

1 Edacoto with piston filler

1 Bayard with piston filler

1 Meteore 815 with piston filler

All of those I cannot open with my bare hands. I have been reading about how to clean fountain pens, some advise to soak in water, some don't (risk for the sacs).

I haven't dared to use pliers (with something in between of course).I am not a specialist but want to learn. I don't have the special tools either.

Any good advice how to proceed would be most welcome..

The following article will be very helpful for the above pen:

Safety pens are extremely tricky and very easy to damage if you do not know what you are doing....

If you are not experienced in working on one, especially a nice Waterman, I would suggest having the pen repaired by someone who really knows how to do it..

I recommend Ron Zorn at mainstreetpens.com....

I had Richard Binder do my two safety pens, but he is not longer taking in repair work... Ron is just as good and will do a great job on it....

Hello...yes I know that and I have done it once with the Pelikan 100 I have.. Eric Wilson in Scotland took good care of it and I might ask him about this one...I am In Denmark, so I have to find a repairman in Europe.. I don't intend to go myself into major repairs, I would have liked at least to be able to open it a bit further...but I guess it might too risky...

So if there is no easy way, off to the specialist it goes...

Thank you for your advice...

Kind regards

Even if you were able to open the nib to the full extent the chances of the seal being viable is slim to none .... and if that is not replaced the pen will leak like a bad faucet when you try to write with it...

I would contact Cathedral pens in the UK and see what they can do for you.....

ok thank you...will do that...

Any idea how to open the other ones ? Feels like they are stuck at the seam with dry ink or dirt or because of many years of non use...

Thank you for the link. It's useful to know the different parts of a pen, in this case a Waterman..but it doesn't say how to get the cap loose from the main body, if it is stuck...

But I learned something from it...so thanks!
