The rarest pen I have is a Sheaffer Targa in the Leather Look finish. The Black Spirals aren't real common either.

I think my rarest pen is this Mont Blanc 244 in the brown striated celluloid. The rest of my vintage collection are all fairly common pens and even this lovely MB isn't what a purist would call "rare," I don't think. But it sure is a pretty little pen!

I like this thread much better than the ones about naming your "most expensive" pens--that just seems a little crass to me. If all I had was a 51 and a Snorkel and a flexy Waterman, I'd consider myself rich, even if the three together wouldn't sell for $100!

Dan

p.s. Bill, I love that Black Spiral Targa--very compelling and elegant!

No doubt my Classic Pnes models like the CP7 (250 pairs made)

and CP-3 (500 made).

I have a few other rare ones but not from issues of those small numbers.

Some of my production pens are fairly rare - a Parker 75 in Guirlande pattern is pretty scarce (although nothing like the 15 pens estimate some sellers tout). I have no idea whether the number released was really under 100 or not, but you don't see them much. I managed to assemble a FP and BP pair.

I also picked up an odd pattern on a Waterman CF that even the experts hadn't seen before - http://www.myonlineimages.com/members/sccsales/images/watermancfgold5.jpg

Althought the double jewelled Parker "51" I have is more expensive, the rarest pen in my collection has to be the Moore Fingertip pen/pencil set.

This one...

#99/200 produced for Levenger, it's a Conway Stewart 100. Nib and cap band are 18k, and it appears in a black whirl...the only black whirl that I've ever seen in a Conway pattern. Extra Fine, but it lays down the biggest, fattest line I've ever seen. Nice and juicy! The picture above doesn't do it much justice, as the colors look a little washed out.

It's funny but the "rarest" pen I have has to be this one:

I honestly have not see this *anywhere* and seen absolutely no reference to it anywhere. Maybe you see them in Europe somewhere, but I absolutely cannot find any reference to it anywhere, not even on the Bic site.

You didnt ask if it was expensive....just if it was rare :D

Well, I'm not sure about the vintage pens, but of my moderns, I'd say the Stipula Duetto "Amethyst" LE for World Lux (only 50 were made; I have #30/50) is the rarest one in my collection.

I also have one of the 351 Retro 51 "Abbondanza" LE fountain pens, but more of those were made....

To be honest I'm not exactly sure  but I have a Waterman Ideal. The nib has "Waterman Ideal New York 2" on it and on the end of the barrel is 0852 1/2 V. Posted it's 140 mm (5.5 inches) long and there is a gold band on the cap 12 mm (0.5 inches) wide. The band is engraved with initials and has a floral design all around it.

My "rarest" pen would have to be my Danitrio Tactical Carry II. Only because this is a prototype finish and there are only 2 in this finish for now. There may be more in production but I'm happy knowing that mine is one of two prototypes of this finish.

Unless there is something rare about the vintage pens that I recently acquired. I don't know much about them so I can't tell.

My rarest pen is a turn of the century A.A. Waterman twist filler, restored by Richard Binder.

My wife found it in an antique store with 4 other pens. The dealer only wanted forty bucks for the lot.

Okay, I give! What is it, Elaine? Looks a bit like a Duofold clone but I don't recognize the clip or any other feature at all. And what's that sparkly gold finish--I don't think I've seen something like that before, either!

This inquiring mind wants to know more!

Jay Taylor, that's got to be one of the nicest Sheaffer Balance pens I've seen in some time--and in such pristine condition! Thanks for sharing that photo!
