Sheaffer Sagaris - Images Of The Fountain Pens

Fellow Collectors,

The Sheaffer Sagaris is due to be released at the end of October. We are expecting to receive advance pens for photos later this week and will post an update.

The company description is that the Sagaris will be a light-weight, slim pen, designed to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand. The overall profile, characterized by a tapered cap and barrel, will remind you of the Imperial and Triumph pen lines that began in the early 1960s and continued through many variations through the late 1990s. The Sagaris will have an open steel nib, instead of the Inlaid nib seen on many of those pens.

The Sagaris will be available in seven finishes in fountain pen, roller ball and ballpoint modes.

Very "Cross" like.

Indeed, but also more Sheaffer like than the Taranis.

The overall design is inoffensive enough, but doesn't really get my blood pumping. I do like the nibs with the gold "cheeks", though.

I was distracted initially by what looks to be a very comfortable transition from section to barrel, but now that there's a good look at the point, I'm a fan at a distance. I find Art Deco very hard to resist.

It's mainly pens, just now....

Oh, good heavens. He's got a blog now, too.

I think the new line looks beautiful . . . a great update of the Triumph or Imperial. Can't wait to buy one or two and especially the wine color. That's a great color and it's wonderful to see that come back. Very enthused. The ballpoints look pretty too.

I'm glad Sheaffer is coming out with a model that looks like the old Imperials. I like them. Now I hope at some point Sheaffer would put out some pen versions of the Sagaris for types like us that think pens of the 1960s were the classic design: brushed chrome cap with colored barrels.

Why no mechanical pencil? A set is not complete without an MP!!

I haven't bothered to look at Sheaffer mechanical pencils for many years so forgive me if I have missed something about the newer models that has changed. My Sheaffer MPs are from the 1960-1979 era, all came to me in Imperial sets. The 0.7 leads are too thick compared to the fine and extra fine FPs in the same sets. The lead chaning system is, umm, archaic and clumsy.

I'd not buy another.

I'm still trying to figure out if I can possibly move a superior mechanical pencil system, say, from Pentel, into the nicer matching Sheaffer barrel. Does not look possible.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

I would love to see a mechanical pencil, and am sorry to say that they are gradually being retired from several models.

I don't know Sheaffer's reasoning, but in terms of interest that we see as a dealer, multifunction pen/pencils greatly outsell pure mechanical pencils. We sell very few pure mechanical pencils.

Other dealers may want to chime in.

If they don't sell, manufacturers will slow down rolling out new ones.

Geez, no inlaid nib.... I'm bored. Call me old-fashioned, but the absence of the inlaid nib makes it "just another" FP.

I am interested in the complete review.

Where can i find the review?

It also appears that the pen is not available with gold trim in the wine colour?

I think a metallic red is also now available?
