Three Classic Pens In Sterling Silver

Mauricio

Recommended Posts

Sharing with all of you about three very special pens in rotation at the moment. These are older and classic fountain pen models in Sterling Silver, made by three different manufacturers and with three completely different nibs. Sterling silver pens have a very unique appeal, both aesthetically and in terms of feel on our hands.

The pens are (from top to bottom in the following picture):

Waterman 452 in black hard rubber with 925 sterling silver filigree overlay, basket weave pattern. Lever filler. Made in USA c1920

Sheaffer Imperial Sterling Silver Touchdown with gold trim and inlaid nib. Touchdown filling mechanism. Made in USA in the early 1970s

Parker 75 Cisele in 925 sterling silver. Cartrdige converter. Made in USA in the late 1960s.

For looks my favourite is the Sheaffer. The first time I saw one it went straight onto my 'must have' list.

It took me three goes to get one, but I love it.

From a writing point of view the Waterman is beautiful. I don't really understand flex nibs but I'm hoping to get one in the near future. Maybe at the London Pen show.

I'll have to try out my 75 with Alt GoldGrun.

I have added the Sheaffer to the infinity list.

Ah, the Waterman 452 :cloud9:

The others are lovely too. I see a lot of sterling Parker 75's, they must have been popular. I like the Sheaffer but I think I like the looks of the Triumph nib better.

That Waterman is impressive. I love sterling, but vintage sterling is stunning. Lovely!

I'm not in favor of natural selection. I'm just saying: Let's remove the warning lables and see what happens.

A nice trio of silver pens.

The Waterman looks really nice.

I have a Sheaffer Imperial in sterling silver but with a stub nib and it is a favourite.

I have had a P75 since my 21st (a long time ago!!) and it is super smooth with a nice springiness.

Very nice, Mauricio--especially that Waterman 452. What an elegant pen and marvelous writer! And your handwriting's not too shabby either!

dannyboy ... Thanks for your kind words. The sterling filigree overlay is an eye catcher in the Waterman 452. That pen has a magnificent flex nib, perhaps one of my favorite Waterman nibs in my pen collection.

dickydotcom ... The Sheaffer Imperial is a very unique pen with its cigar shape, sterling finish, and inlaid nib. It is a quality pen. The links below will give you in-depth information on flex nibs, my passion with fountain pens. Will gladly help you with any information you need on flexible nibs.

BoBo ... The Alt Goldgrun is one of favorite inks for that medium/broad nib in the Parker 75 pen. How do you like your Parker 75? I have enjoyed every Parker 75 pen I have written with. Despite being slim pens, they have perfect balance on the hand. Love their nibs as well.

UncleRed ... Glad you like the Waterman 452 and the Sheaffer nib. Parker made lots of 75 sterling silver pens. They are very well made pens. The 75 was one of Parker's most successful models after the 51. I also like the lacquer French version in the 75 model.

A lovely trio of silver pens

davinci ... Thanks

That Waterman is impressive. I love sterling, but vintage sterling is stunning. Lovely!

Windycityhorse ... The Waterman is indeed gorgeous. The sterling filigree overlay sets it apart. I bet it was very labor intensive to make the overlay sleeves for those pens.

Malcy ... You have a very clean Sheaffer Imperial. That's the cratridge/converter version, correct? Sheaffer has a reputation to have made some of the best writing nibs ever, from XXF to BB stubs. Thanks for sharing that great picture of your Imperial pen.

Yes it is the C/C version and I have fitted a aerometric style converter. The BB stub is sweet, the Imperial IV touchdown shown below is as nice a writer but the sterling Imperial wins on finish.

The Imperial IV is another pen that Eric Wilson did an amazing rescue job on.
