Fake Parker 75?

A collector asked me how to spot a fake Parker 75. I told him in 10 years of buying and selling 1,000's of Parker 75's in the USA and when I lived in Asia I only saw one Parker 75, a ballpoint, that I think was maybe counterfeit. So my question is, has anyone ever seen a true counterfeit Parker 75? I don't mean a pen that looks like one with another name, I mean one made to fool you into thinking it's a Parker 75. Just curious. Cheers, BOB

If you never came across one in Thailand all those years, then I would say that the counterfeiters missed that one. In my years travelling frequently to China, I never saw anything other than the fake Sonnets, Montblancs, and 51 clones.

Did once see a perfect replica of a Sheaffer Snorkel that was made in Japan. Wanted badly to buy that one but my collector friend wasnt about to part with it. It was actually an improvement as the perfect repro sack guard and the spring were made from stainless!!

Sensitive Pen Restoration doesn't cost extra.

I can't say I've seen one, but last week I recieved a Rainbow 811, a cheapie all-steel semi-hooded thing, and out of curiosity I took it apart. The point and feed are VERY like the unit out of a Parker 75; somewhat like a body-snatcher podling whose subject woke up at the last possible moment. The pen in toto looks nothing like a 75, but the existence of the fake unit suggests that someone was at least pondering the possibility.

I believe that Wilson in India made official copies of the 75 with steel nibs.

I was taking some pictures yesterday, and thought I'd show what I told:

While I had them both out, I made a trial and found that the Rainbow will indeed fit to hole of the 75

I suspect that since the revival in fountain pens occured in the '80's and '90's when yuppies were all buying Mont Blancs that 75's were overlooked, since their heyday was more in the '60's and '70's. By the time the forgers realized that there was a market for fake pens, Sonnets were the latest Parkers to copy. Even though 75's are "modern" pens using cartridges and converters, they still tend to appeal to collectors rather than the general public where the money and the potential suckers are.

I saw fake parker Sonnets in the street, but it's ball pen(also fake). We have "hero 200",which is very similar to parker 75. I think the hero pen factory should develop it's own fountain pen style and do not just COPY parker anymore.

In China we call fake:"shan zhai" which means the goods are fake and made in a small village.

Yes, I think so.

There is a major chinesepensupplier.com on E-Bay (with at least two separate E-Bay shops) who has a fake pens site which he keeps well away from E-Bay. On that site he sells fake MB's, Dupont/Dunhills and Parkers. The fake Parkers he sells are the P75 Cisille (or however you spell it - I'm pretty certain it's a P75 as it's a different shape from the fake Sonnet Cisille also on the site), IM, Rialto & Sonnet.

I have not bought a pen from that site, so cannot comment on pen quality.

Regards,

Richard.

I think I know whom you are talking about, and I ordered one fake "sonnet" (which he does not even say it's sonnet, you have to deduct it by seen the photo) just to see at what condition one of those can be compared to the genuine. I am getting scared about the pens on sale on eBay! It is like coins, they make some counterfeits somewhere that makes you feel scared about purchasing a coin ever again in your life.

I once bought a fake sonnet, i paid 45 usd for a pen that was only worth 2. I was so stupid that i didn`t even realise it was a fake for some time, because the nib was identical to the real one, and the pen didn`t feel that cheap + it came with a box and instructions, just like a real one !!! :crybaby:

Now whenever i hear about the parker sonnet, i just want to run away :(

I used to work for PARKER PEN in the 1980's and one my responsabilities was to identify, chase and destroy counterfeiting models and I can tell you that I saw conterfeiting PARKERS from refills all the way to the 75's, and later on the PREMIERS.

As to their appearances? the most expensive models were quite poor in quality and finish, but in the case of the refills, Jotters and Classics sometimes it was difficult to identify the "real McCoy".

At the time most of the counterfeiting material came from Taiwan and Hong Kong throught Panama and Paraguay to be ship and sold later on to most of Latin Amerca with ridiculous prices...and quality.

So don't be surprise in finding an odd looking '75' at a "bargain price", especially if being ship from Asia.
