Lamy Safari Colours

I bought my first Safari the other day at the the NK department store in Stockholm. When I picked out my color, which was a red one with a red clip the man behind the counter smiled and said "you do know there's only four-hundred of those in the world, right?" I didn't, and I felt quite happy with my purchase of such a good looking and good writing pen.

Can post a picture if it would be of any interest.

there is interest : ) what is the red with red clip significance? Is there a company name or logo? such as the Apple pen?.

I don't know if there's any special meaning to it - the man behind the counter mentioned that there's only four hundred in the world and they were especially made for NK, though there's no logo on it other than the standard Lamy logo imprinted on the body. :happyberet:

I've attached a photo taken with my MacBook webcam, so excuse the image quality.

I tried calling, but the person I spoke with said international phone orders were not possible. I would very much like to get an all red version. Is there anyone in Stockholm who is willing to buy one and mail it to the US? If so, I could send money to cover the cost of the pen, shipping, and enough to make it worth your while.

Sorry, another question on the red NK pen. Is the top of the cap a red dot, a red cross/plus sign/x, or a black cross? I ask because Rakuten in Japan had a run of Safaris with red clips, and I wonder if the NK pen is the same.

  • Charcoal black pen, red clip, black cross
  • Red pen, red clip, black cross
  • Yellow pen, red clip, black cross

I must have Safaris on the brain. Here are mine. I'm missing two three colors, a few variations, and many promotional/one-off pens. Pictures link to Flickr for higher resolution.

For the production pens, I'm missing terra/vannah and the original Joy, which was shiny black with chrome clip.

As for the production pen variations, I need

  • Transitional yellow Safari
  • Green Al-Star with black clip
  • Lime green Safari with green cross
  • Lime green Safari with smoke section and black clip (or was that a prototype?)
  • Pink Safari with pink dot
  • The other Lamy Flame. I'm fairly sure I have the Bertrams Inkwell reissue from a few years back, but my eyes play tricks on me with reds and oranges

Like haywoody, I'm less interested in the promo/one-off pens, but I do have some fun ones and wouldn't say no to more if the price was right.

They are indeed intoxicating once you realize you have the rainbow effect building -- but are missing a few colors -- notably missing in the ABS Safari range are a Brown, True Green, True Purple, and perhaps a dark red.

Then, there could be a whole new series if they released the rainbow in Textures, like the Charcoal.

The finish on the Charcoal is so tough, wonder if they (Lamy) fear folks might stop at one pen, (hah).

Lime green Safari with green cross Never heard about this one!!!

See here for a good resource.

The other Lamy Flame. I'm fairly sure I have the Bertrams Inkwell reissue from a few years back, but my eyes play tricks on me with reds and oranges Again, never heard about this one !!!

See here, earlier in this thread. Bertram's Inkwell had a limited run of these in 2009 at the same price of the regular Safaris. This was before the orange with chrome clip was released. If the previous post is correct, the original flame has a slightly deeper orange. I just asked the bride if my Flame and Orange are the same color, and she says the Flame is slighly darker. So perhaps it is the original and not the "reissue" after all.

You're speaking my language! I turn to the charcoal and griso most often--I love those textures. I couldn't resist a textured maroon/oxblood Safari...

Thinking my Flame is an early one, as it's from EU. It came with a clear & silver plastic box.

Have yet to see any real plan behind the release of specific colors. (just see those holes in the rainbow effect ; )

Think the most exciting release would be re-release of terra/vanna inaugurating a new series of textures.

Though, that would amp the prices of discontinued pristine shine examples. (imvho).

I want want to see a bright lavender shade, preferably in the shiny, not the textures. But any purple Safari would make me happy at this point.

I would love to know how many Safaris have been sold over the life time of the design. Does anyone know?

Do not let old pens lay around in a drawer, get them working and give them to a new fountain pen user.

  • 2 weeks later...

As much as I admire and salute completists, I'm not one. I only buy the ones I like. I really only like the colored ones with silver clips.

But I definitely would go for a textured line with different color bodies and black clips.

First, though, please give us a true purple as the next Safari special edition.

kmpn has another color variation on the blog: red body, bright yellow clip, bright yellow cross cap top. We both think it has the same clip as the NK Sweden pen from some years ago. The Germany/Japan Friendship pen has a more mustard yellow clip.

See http://kmpn.blogspot.hk/2012/08/lamy-safari-red-with-yellow-clip-2012.html

Hi bphollin,

it could be possible to buy this chinese edition of Safari? Did you have one? I also want it so bad. Please tell me, if you know any way to get it.

and to everybody,

yesterday on Ebay the Lamy Safari Swedish edition reached the new record of price :D.

Ok, the Swedish Lamy Safari is rare but to pay US$400 for one (and then add on 19% German VAT)... Now that must be a very serious collector! And it's not like there we're only two with sky high bids - 5 bids exceeded $350!

And a new information from LAMY Hong Kong. The new chinese Lamy Safari edition (red with yellow cap-top and clip) will be available next week, but the official price for new one is about $60 (390 Chinese YUAN) and only shipping inside China :(. A quite expensive and trouble to get it, but I will try to have one :(
