Help Filling Platignum Italic Calligraphy Pen

Hi All,

I just scored a Platignum lettering set from ebay. I am very excited because it contains the same nib sizes from the Renyolds book that I am going to start working from. I ran into one problem, I have no Idea how to fill this thing. The engraving says "to fill press bar slowly 4 or 5 times" Does this mean I stick the nib in my ink well and press the bar slowly or do I have to take the nib off? It seems that with the nib on it does not fill? Thanks for the help...

Eric

I have no experience with this specific pen, but: you should be able to fill it with the nib on, as long as you make sure to submerge the pen in ink up to the beginning of the section (that can be tricky with some ink bottles). But if you can't fill it with the nib on and it fills if you submerge it with the nib off, just fill it with the nib off.

Here's a description of that type of filler, from Richard Binder's site.

"Perdita thought, to take an example at random, that things like table manners were a stupid and repressive idea. Agnes, on the other hand, was against being hit by flying bits of other people's cabbage." (Pratchett, T. Carpe Jugulum.)
