Diamine Rustic Brown

OC Mike

Recommended Posts

While looking for a brown ink in my collection, I came across a bottle of Diamine Rustic Brown that I forgot I had purchased. Here's an ink review for those of you who may be in the market for a reddish brown. I've included a swab sample of Diamine Oxblood for a comparison.

After uploading the scan, my monitor doesn't exhibit the deeper red of the Oxblood demonstrated on the original.

How does it compare to some of the other browns like Havana Brown/Walnut/Kiowa Pecan?

Great review btw.

Very fine review! I've had similar good experiences with this ink, even though I'm not usually a fan of the color brown.

The earthy, red undertone and the wonderful flow properties have won me over, and it does look different with different nibs of course, another

reason I enjoy it so much.

And, I'm also admiring that lovely cursive italic nib.

Love this ink, thanks for the review, it is a quiet winner. In answer to tne above, it is not mostly brown as are Havana Brown, Kiowa Pecan, or Walnut, the latter of which are dark browns. A better Noodler's comparison would be Alamo's Twilight. The discontinued Sailor Red Brown is also in the ballpark. What else, what else? Brain not working now.

I own both this ink and Diamine's Monaco Red, which is a lovely blood red. When I compared them side by side I noticed they're basically the same colour, only Rustic Brown is darker. Even though I only use Monaco Red nowadays I'm still really fond of Rustic Brown. It goes especially well with slightly yellowish paper, as in my Rhodia Webnotebook.
