Montblanc Serial Number

Hi,

I've earned an used Meisterstuck Montblanc Ballpoint Pen and I was wondering if there is any way to use the serial number that is engraved to the ring above the clip to certify that it is an original one.

I also would like to know if a Rollerball refill will work on this model.

And there is another, and maybe the worst, issue. The clip, rings and tip are a little tarnished by the time it was kept. How do I make it shine again, without deteriorate the resin body?

Thank you all.

Hi,

Based on the deterioration and looking at the clip, I am lead to believe that your pen is not original. In fact I'm quite sure that it is not an original montblanc. Regarding the refill, the rollerball won't fit for sure, regarding an original ballpoint refill, it's impossible to say... you'll just have to try it for yourself. Posting some pics of the refill that came with it might help.

Boa sorte!

Thank you osnofian,

I've rechecked it and unfortunatelly it does not seem to be an original one. Bad luck. lol.

But what about the serial number? Is there any way to check it online?

No, I don't think there is any way to check them without actually going to an official montblanc shop. As a rule of thumb, chinese knockouts seem to have serials with lot's of 2,3 and 8's as they are chinese lucky numbers. Furthermore, if you google the serial number and something comes up, it's likely that there are many pens with the same serial, which is a good indication that it's not original (even though montblanc is known to use the same serials for different pens).

In your case it's really the quality of the plating and the manufacturing process used on the clip that gives it away :|

osnofian is absolutely right - the clip gives it away: it's pressed (hollow inside the tip) - so most certainly not a Montblanc.

As far as rollerball refills, since it is not an original pen, you might as well get a generic gel refill that fits ballpoint pens - plenty on eBay.

To the person who reported me for copyright violation in my WANTED ad in the classifieds section for a 75th LE 149:

Really? An 80x80 pixels avatar-type picture in the heading of a wanted advert is threatening your well-being?

My apologies then. Thank you. Goodbye.

Well, the pen is in fact another counterfeit. About the rollerball refill, there is a MONTEVERDE gel refill, and it is the same ballpoint refill shape but filled with ink gel and it is a rollerball refill. You can try that.

Regards

Please excuse my poor english, but it is not my mothern language and maybe it is wrong my grammar. Any Suggestions are welcome.

I have a Mont Blanc Meisterstuck fountain pen with serial number KY1944219,but Richemont says the packaging is a fake but won't say if the pen is genuine or not....Is this serial number genuine or not,as I bought this pen in good faith.. Regards Patrick Moore

Photos will help, and even if it looks real in the photos, no guarantee can be given. More often than not, if the packaging is fake, the pen has a high probability of being fake as well. My reasoning is, if the person that sold you the pen didn't recognize the fake package, he/she will certainly not recognize a fake pen. Even if the seller is in good faith, they may be making a mistake. It is silly to sell a real montblanc in a fake package consciously.

In any case, :W2FPN:

P.S. - your pen is extremely likely to be fake. If you google that serial number there are many many pens with that serial... sorry.

So, I think it is no good to bid/buy any MB from eBay...from now on.

It has always been like that. It is (at least for me) impossible to detect (good quality) fake montblanc ballpoints on ebay based on photos. Fountain pens are a bit easier, but due to the quality of the photos, sometimes still challenging. Either it is some model that it's not worth faking (el-cheapo 60's and 70's MB fountain pens), or I simply don't buy it.

As a general rule of thumb, either you trust the seller (from previous purchases or meeting them personally), or you trust that paypal will sort it out in the long run (may happen, may not happen), or it's best to stay safe and not buy anything at all. But that's just my 2c of advice.

Neither Montblanc or eBay actually examine each listing. Only eBay can actually remove a listing, all Montblanc can do is what you could do and that is report suspected fakes.

Please remember too that often incorrect listing are not attempted fraud but rather simple ignorance on the part of the seller.

Does anybody out there know which Montblanc models are usually faked? I often buy Montblanc fountain pens on ebay, but never newer models, later than the 80's. Have they been faked before that, or worse... do they fake older models too?

This is turning into a discussion against eBay. In reality, I don't think eBay has anything to do with it. I encounter fake montblancs even in car boot sales and other situations, with the people that are selling the pens generally not knowing that they are selling a fake. With a bit of common sense bad situations can be avoided. If you want to be 100% sure that you are buying the real deal... go to a Montblanc Boutique and buy it there... Want it cheaper? buy it tax free in the airports.

philipr: Generally piston fillers are more difficult to fake. Fake 'gold' nibs are magnetic (so a magnet test on your pens may be in order).

In general, this forums have more than enough information for anyone interested to learn how to avoid being fooled. Ask the questions before bidding. In case of doubt, don't bid/buy...

I agree, there are plenty of fakes on eBay, and they're certainly more interested in their fees than authenticity of the stuff on offer, but then again, I recently sold Greta Garbo and Meisterstuck Inkwell on Ebay, and just got an almost reasonable offer on JS Bach, so not all Montblancs on eBay are fake rolleyes.gif Unfortunately, due to the sheer volume of potential buyers (Garbo went to Germany, inkwell - to Israel), there's no real alternative to eBay, as much as I hate paying three sets of charges for a single item...

Many modern fake gold nibs are not magnetic so even that is not a sure test.

I will call a halt to this debate as of now.. I have been told by one of the letter writers that the same serial number is on a lot of Mont Blanc pens advertised so must be Fakes..My last letter from Mont Blanc says they will reinstate my Ebay advert if ,I REMOVE THE OFFENDING PACKAGING, as Jimmy Saville would have said "How's about that".. End of discussion..Regards Patrick..PS I checked the nib ,non magnetic, but means nothing I suppose..

Hello, a friend of mine has a MB Meisterstuck and he would like to sell it. I can upload some pictures here. Can you please tell me more about this MB?

The serial number of it is MC221695. It looks to be authentic. How much it worth? Is it gold plated or solid gold? Thank you for your responses,

Alex
