Can Anyone Identify The Model And Value Of This Carter Ink Pen?

Hi FPN,

A friend of mine found this Carter Ink pen and we cannot identify it. Note that there is a gold cap band missing and the clip is also missing. Does anyone know what the value of this pen would be? The nib seems to be semi-flexible.

This seems very similar to one I picked up from an estate sale and restored. Nice writer, some flex to the nib. Probably made 1930 to 1932, one of the Streamlined Pearltex line. You can google Carter Ink (or pens) and get more info. The missing gold bands on either end were due to either 1) people removing them, or more likely, 2) Carter not putting them on in production due to the depression. I would say that in good condition the pen might fetch $150 to $200 or more.

Here are some pics of my Carter, along with an appropriate ad:

I think the pen that you have is slightly different. The end of my section is different. And my pen barrel is a bit thicker. Also, without the clip, is the value of mine diminished alot? Is it easy to find replacement nibs?

I know a little about Carter's....enough to be dangerous.

The pen looks like an oversize pen, which makes it more desirable.

Yes, the broken clip will be a problem, as the only place you'll find one is from a donor pen. $100 installed?

The Carter's INX nib looks good...why would you want to replace it? They're very hard to find, ESPECIALLY if it's an oversize. If it's tipping is damaged, it can be re-tipped.

The lever can also sometimes be a problem, as Carter's used a unique lever design. Many are replacements and devalue the pen.

The band can be replaced.

If it's an oversized pen, it might be worth $100-150 for parts.

To repair it correctly, figure $200 if you can find the clip.

OOPS! I meant can the "clip be replaced". I typed "nib" by accident. Yes, I've used it as a dip pen to test it out and the nib is flawless. I figured the clip would come from a donor pen and that it would be expensive. oh well.

It is oversized and it looks great. :) I should have put it next to another pen in the photo for comparison.
