Noodler's Burma Road Brown

See post #8 for drying time smear test.

Noodler's Burma Road Brown is my only brown at the moment (this is temporary however). It is a cooler brown with a greenish tint depending on the light. It shades very nicely. It does have an odd fragrance, but it's not bad. This ink is great if you are going for a "vintage" look. When I tried the water test, some lifted off, but most stayed, so it won't just "run away" when wet. I forgot to write a yes or no etc. on the paper itself. I really like this ink!

The paper is inexpensive Walmart school notebook (made in Brazil) that is very thin, but is not as bad about feathering as some of the other (equally) inexpensive papers.

Thank you for the nice review. I keep telling myself that I don't need this ink, but then I see a sample such as yours and start to waver. How easy is it to clean out of a pen and have you noticed any staining with it?

I think the color of Burma Road Brown is fantastic but I've had major flow issues with it. I've had it clog pens and I've also had it literally drip out of pens. This is in pens that I've normally had no issues with.

Just bought two bottles of this but haven't tried it yet. I've used blue/black in the v-mail series and liked that a lot. Two three ounce bottles should last me about 5 years with intermittent use. (I've got some other browns to rotate to as well.) So I intend to like it very much. ;)

If you like the cool grey-brown look, you might try J. Herbin Cacao du Bresil.

It does seem to be finicky about the pens it works well with. I've had a couple that didn't work especially great, though nothing like you've described. However, when you find a good match, it's sublime.

Music, verily, is the mediator between intellectual and sensuous life, the one incorporeal entrance into the high world of knowledge which comprehends mankind but which mankind cannot comprehend. -Ludwig van Beethoven

Here's another scan of Burma Road Brown (I can't seem to edit the original post to add these... I guess too much time has passed)

Great review and your scans managed to perfectly capture the unique color of this ink.

I noticed the dry time of this ink is really fast! Like 'Lefty Fast'.
