Montblanc Rouge Et Noir 2F Safety With White Star

Hi all,

I'm posting this to seek advice on a pen advertised on eBay [http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-Montblanc-Safety-ROUGE-ET-NOIR-2-F-Near-Mint-/200644256383?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2eb754627f]. I did not know that the Rouge et Noir came with a white star, and is it also the case that both "Montblanc" and "Rouge et Noir" logo imprints were found on the same pen? Most grateful for any views on the authenticity of this pen, which looks to be in fantastic condition, almost too good to be true! Thanks for taking the trouuble to read this post from someone who is still struggling, after 2 years, to understand the complexity and variety of early Montblancs!

I just did a quick search and found a lot of photos that help explain what a 'Rouge et Noir' is - as it is a black and RED pen.............not black and white!

http://www.google.com.au/search?q=Montblanc+Rouge+et+Noir&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=efB&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&prmd=ivnsfd&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=U9JUTpX3EuPWiAKaxNT0DA&ved=0CHIQsAQ&biw=1016&bih=617

Hope this helps! The pen up for auction does look delicious - but why call a black and white pen a black and red one???

Each day is the start of the rest of your life!

Make it count!!!

At the beginning, Simplo creates a fountain pen with a red cap and names it "Rouge et Noir".

Simplo changes the model and introduces the white cap, a little after they create the Montblanc label.

But the model "Rouge et Noir" continues his career.

If the star is not red it is not a complete Rouge et Noir, my guess is they used the cap of a different pen... iand they should say it. I own myself a Rouge a Noir and I must say it is great with the red star.

As I read the information at http://www.cas1996.d...t=395&width=600 the pen could be OK. The early pens just had a red top (- hence the name). The red star was used from 1914 - 1919. Later pens carried a white star. The name Montblanc was stamped on from 1910.

I would appreciate if you specify where at CAS you found the information, all the images there show the red star and it did not say much about the history, I am curious.

I looked at the Catalogs too but I did not find anything specifying Rouge et Noir inscription + White Star...

Thank you in advance,

Best, Ariel

Well, I should apologize... I did not find the information in CAS website, but it seems there is an indication of a Rouge et Noir with a white star indeed !! in the Jens Rösler book...

Here is the list...

Hope it helps, Ariel

Thanks very much, Ariel. This is most useful. There are clearly some discrepancies in the advertised pen compared to the Rosler reference you kindly provided. The nib is Montblanc 2 ("14 CT") and there is no mention of "Simplo" on nib, cap or barrel. Frankly, I don't know what to make of it being new and inexpert.

I watched the e bay link (although ended) again and according to the Rosler list there are some discrepancies indeed since The "Rouge et Noir" with a white star would be the one with "Rouge et noir" inscribed in the barrel and not in the cap which would sound as contradictory...

Did you buy the pen? Not to be the "real" rouge et noir does not change much since you can look for missing parts... it could take long time but that is collecting pens too... I attend many shows so I will have my eyes opened and if I find new information or a part I will send you an e mail or open a new post here...

Of course the pen could be cheaper but also much more expensive... Traps are part of the collecting addiction...

In relation to being new and inexpert I would not worry too much... I have been collecting for more than fifty years I have more pens that I should but every time I am still new and without experience !!!

And usually I want one more of those I usually have....

I have been very much interested in this topic because my dream pen is one of those Rouge et Noir..

Now, the one I have is a 4 F and has the right 14 Carat 4 nib... but it has inscribed "rouge et noir" in both barrel and cap and I bought it from a real expert... although the Rosler book does not mention both inscriptions...

Any way I will go on looking for a larger one ...

And for you, good luck !

Ariel

Thanks, Ariel, for your advice and support. The pen sold on eBay for around $1450 which was beyond what I was willing to pay due to the discrepencies. Please do keep me in mind if you come across another MB rouge et noir because I too cherish this as my dream pen!
