Hauk & Gross Filigree Pen.

Today I found a pen with a Hauk & Gross nib. I presume the pen is by the same maker, it hasn't been used for years and the nib seems right.

Coupled with that I see that there was some discussion on this forum in 2006 that referred to a probable article by Mike Fultz, and describing how the company probably closed shop around 1920.

The pen measures 6" (15.5 cm) with the cap posted.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Derek

Nice pen, Derek. You should have posted the link to that previous thread about Hauk & Gross. I don't know whether I posted any of this before, but here goes, maybe again.

Hauk & Gross were the successors to the Mooney Pen Co. around 1908. Henry J. Hauk and Theodore G. Gross got the company, the name, and the trademark, and they made "Mooney's Model Pen", but C. E. Barrett & Co. got Mooney's 1908 finger-press-filler patent. Hauk & Gross were located at 131 Wabash Ave., Chicago, Ill., in 1910, and were succeeded by T. G. Gross & Co., which went out of business around 1920-22.

Is that enough? If not, try to find the article by Mike Fultz.

George Kovalenko.

Thank you George. The reference was somewhat vague, although useful. Here it is:

I looked at the Fultz Pen World article on Toledo but there's no mention of Hauk & Gross there, still looking for the Mooney one.

No metion of Hauk & Gross in Fultz' Toledo article, because they were based in Chicago. Frank Mooney eventually ended-up working for Conklin, maybe this is where you heard a connection to Toledo?

By the way, you are very lucky to have acquired such a great pen - I'm very envious.
