Parker Duofold Centennial Blue Marble Help!

Hello all,

I inherited this Parker Duofold and have been wanting to write with it for some time. When I first got it 2 years ago it wouldn't write so I put the nib in cold water for a day and cleaned it out several times. Then I left it to dry and stored it until recently. I then went to a pen shop as it wouldn't write again after filling with India ink; apparently that ink is a notoriously clogger so the nice lady cleaned it out, removed the piston for me and put on a parker cartridge. It wrote well the first four times I used it but now, after not using for a few weeks, I have to dip the nib in water to get any sort of flow going. The ink flow is also a light grey due to water and just does not want to run black...

My question is:

Should I try the 10% ammonia and cold water and if so do I put the whole nib assembly (writing part and black/gold colour part with thread) as is shown in picture or what should I do?

Thanks for looking and any advice, cheers

Yes you can put the whole section in ammonia/water solution. You might want to write with it more often so it doesn’t dry out on you, or if you aren’t going to use it flush the ink out of it before you put it away.

Sry, didnt post in wrong thread, but for some reason I see the next thread right below this one, maybe something to do with my chrome browser settings.. I've never seen that in a forum.. Nevermind though, I'm been soaking the nib for a few hours now, will take it out, dry it, and put the end of the nip in writing position on top of some paper towel to let all the water out... this is correct no?

Right, well I cleaned it up, dried it, new cartridge andddd, it's still writes really faded and choppy. Ink is quite constant unless I make semi-quick lines.

Do I need to try the 2000 grit sandpaper or clearing line with razor? I ask because of course I'm hesitant to use anything abrasive...

That india ink may still be clogging things up a bit. Give it a day or so and see if it improves. If not you may need a more heavy duty cleaner.

If indeed the India ink is still clogging up part of the feed it may be necessary to use something like Kohinoor pen cleaner to get all of the nasty India ink out.

Also, after you have soaked it a while longer, get a squeeze bulb (like an ear syringe) and shoot your soaking solution through the section a bunch of times.

rince your pen till you will have clear water.Use slightly warm water to clean the dried ink residues.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Never, never, ever, ever, EVER put india ink in a fountain pen again, ever...

I hope your pen recovers. Go, and sin no more!
