I received a Montblanc 149 that I have partially disassembled. The joints were so bad that I just removed by hand.

What can be used to replace the pink sealant used by MB?

Excellent pictures! BTW, why is the piston seal pinkish? is it old ink stains there? It is usually translucent white in new or ambered in really old pens.

 

Regarding the pink sealant, I now use the section sealant sold by Tryphon. YMMV.

I do not know why the piston seal is pink ...

I have used pure beeswax to replace the pink 'bubble gum' sealant and never had a problem with the pens seeping following this.

 

This advice, and beeswax, was given by well established FPN member Fountinbel. ( that is spelt wrong but not far off! )

good luck on your mb repair

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I just finished the assembly of the pen and it is under observation for leaks. I used beeswax for waterproofing ;)

My guess is yes it's old stains. This often happens when you use red ink.

 

Well done for dismantling that 149 and putting it back together. :thumbup:

I've also used the bees wax as sealant, as per Fountainbel. Never had a problem.

Is sealant used to prevent ink from seeping out or making the Meisterstruck pens harder to damage from self repair?

Hi,

 

As for the pink piston seal, that is commonly found in pens that have used certain inks, mostly black inks. I think Parker Quink Black can stain pistons pink like that. I've also seen pistons stained that color with Pilot Black. Aurora Black and Pelikan Brilliant Black don't seem to do that. Some blue black inks also stain pistons pink. I wouldn't worry. It's mostly cosmetic.

I am looking to disassemble some of my 149's - can you tell me where to find the 2-pronged tool needed to remove the nib and also the cone?
