'unique' Pen

Hi,

I'm pretty new here and so am still finding my way around. I am pretty certain I saw a post which referred to a 'Unique' pen, but for the life of me I can't now find it.

Anyway, I don't have a big collections, but until now I've stuck with Mabie Todds and Conways. But I saw this sweet little pen on Ebay the other evening, with a few minutes to go, and snatched it up.

I haven't had much time to research it, but a couple of quick Googles has come up with nothing, but I will persevere.

It's only a small pen, a mere 11cms closed and 13.5 cms. fully open.

It is inscribed 'The Unique Pen' Made in England. It has a 14K nib, in nice condition, that has an additional inscription of 0 585 and what seems to be the head of a Unicorn.

She fills well, seems ready to go, and after a bit of a scratch start seems to write quite smoothly.

Just though I'd share this with you... I'll try and do some research now, but if anyone has any info on it, then that would be great!

Thanks

Mario

Thanks to a link found on another thread (I finally found it) that took me to the Fountain Pen Emporium, I've found a very similar model to mine. ... and the following info.

A late 1920s to late 1930s period Unique fountain pen. During the years before the end of World War II. From about 1943 production of pens was severely restricted by the Board of Trade. Unique were only allowed to make 2 model types. The company ceased making pens in 1958. The 3 leaf clover logo is apparent on the end of the pocket clip. At this time Unique did not make their own nibs the warranted 14 carat gold nibs were produced by specialist nib makers. The special mythical horselike unicorn emblem is engraved on this nib. A superb fountain pen in excellent condition. An authentic model which will appeal to serious pen collector enthusiasts. Side lever ink filling, a new rubber ink sac has been fitted.

Feature: item 119588

Nice price too, I only paid £20 inclusive of p&p, so that was an impulsive buy that for once has paid off!

I'm going to carry on to see if I can find one in my colour/design!

Yours looks prettier.

585 = 14 K gold.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

Many thanks .. I think it's sweet.

Of course! What threw me was that it also has 14K.

You've found a very nice quality made pen, complete with a box in good condition and a spare clip. No doubt you will enjoy using it. Also very good photos

Thanks Pickwick ... I take a lot of photos in the garden and out and about, but hadn't realised how difficult it was to take reasonable shots of pens!

I use all my pens, so long as they're working, so will be using this one (I like things to be functional). I need to send a couple off for repairs/service, and it's lovely when they come back 'working' as they should!

I will post a few more pics of some of my pens to share.

Thanks again
