Waterman Stub Nibs

Hello, yesterday I won on ebay a waterman carene and I now have to deside the nib width. So I would like some more information on waterman stub nibs, which is their width? Some writing samples will really help. Waiting for your answers

Yes I confess, I am still using my Jotter

You may get more info by posting this in the Waterman Forum section. Carene stub nib is pleasure to write with; smooth, sufficiently wet and subtle line variations.

The Carene stub nib looks like:

Here's the writing sample with Carene stub:

And if you want to compare several nib-widths in Carene, this might help:

I've had a couple of 'em. Was just jotting some notes with one before opening this thread. They are nice writers if they work well - one of mine did, the other needed tuning.

Vertical strokes about .8mm (i.e., in between a Waterman medium and broad); vertical strokes substantially narrower: one of mine was closer to cursive italic, the other had less line variation and so was more stub-like...But both were/are easy to write with.

Overall, I think the line width and variation makes them a good choice for general writing, as they will suit different writing sizes and styles nicely.

Hi,

I used the M mono-line in this Ink Review : https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?/topic/160998-rohrer-klingner-salix/

The Stub was used in this Ink Review: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?/topic/192761-pelikan-4001-blue-black/

Each Review has a 'NIB-ism' Link / scan which is scaled, so one can do the arithmetic to determine down-stroke line width.

Both inks above are quite dry, and render tight lines. Consequently, they may be considered on the narrow end of what is to be expected if/when running wetter inks on more absorbent papers.

The width, shape / sharpness seem to suit the Carene for routine writing , though they cannot be mistaken for a hand-ground Stub.

Bye,
