Here you can look up the (more or less contemporary) numbers of the Montblanc Meisterstück pens:

Just in black with goldplated trims:

149 = Montblanc Meisterstück 149

169 = Montblanc Meisterstück Leonardo Sketch Pen

LeGrand line: in black with goldplated trims, with rhodinized trims (add a P after the number), and in burgundy with golden trims (discontinued)

147 = Montblanc Meisterstück LeGrand Traveller fountain pen (cartridge only) (not with rhodinized trims)

146 = Montblanc Meisterstück LeGrand fountain pen (piston)

167 = Montblanc Meisterstück LeGrand pencil 0,9mm

166 = Montblanc Meisterstück LeGrand document marker (only with goldplated trims)

162 = Montblanc Meisterstück LeGrand rollerball

161 = Montblanc Meisterstück LeGrand ballpoint

Classique line: in black with either golden or rhodinized trims (add P) or in burgundy with golden trims

145 = Montblanc Meisterstück Classique fountain pen (cartridge/converter) – formerly named H.a.F.Chopin

144 = Montblanc Meisterstück Classique fountain pen (cartridge/converter) (never with rhodinized trims)

168 = Montblanc Meisterstück Classique fineliner

165 = Montblanc Meisterstück Classique pencil 0,7mm or 0,5mm

164 = Montblanc Meisterstück Classique ballpoint

163 = Montblanc Meisterstück Classique rollerball

Hommage à Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart line: in black or burgundy with golden trims or in black with rhodinized trims (add P)

114 = Montblanc Meisterstück H.a.W.A.Mozart fountain pen

116 = Montblanc Meisterstück H.a.W.A.Mozart ballpoint

117 = Montblanc Meisterstück H.a.W.A.Mozart pencil 0,7mm

The Solitaire lines:

1xx1 = Montblanc Meisterstück Solitaire Doué Sterling

1xx2 = Montblanc Meisterstück Solitaire Doué Vermeil (only with burgundy body and a burgundy bordered star at the cap top)

1xx3 = Montblanc Meisterstück Solitaire Vermeil Barleycorn

1xx4 =

1xx5 = Montblanc Meisterstück SolitaireVermeil Pinstripe

1xx6 = Montblanc Meisterstück Solitaire Sterling Barleycorn

1xx7 =

1xx8 = Montblanc Meisterstück Solitaire Sterling Pinstripe

1xx9 = Montblanc Meisterstück Solitaire Solid Gold

... for example 1471 = Montblanc Meisterstück Solitaire Doué Sterling LeGrand Traveller fountain pen

or for example 1645 = Montblanc Meisterstück Solitaire Vermeil Classique Pinstripe ballpoint pen

later Montblanc put two numbers in front of the Solitaire models:

12xxx = Montblanc Meisterstück Solitaire Platinum (solid platinum with goldplated trims)

14xxx = Montblanc Meisterstück Solitaire Doué goldplated/black

20xxx = Montblanc Meisterstück Solitaire Ramses II

221xx = Montblanc Meisterstück Solitaire Nikolai I Vermeil

223xx = Montblanc Meisterstuck Solitaire Nikolai I rhodinized

and even later it got more confusing as Montblanc started to run out of numbers and put # 231xx, 232xx and so on for their different materials.

Perhaps I will edit later.

Very nice summery Axel; thank you!

This pretty much matches my MB catalogs from the late 1990's.

The 2000's really became more confusing with more models and different number systems :bonk:

Cheers

Can anyone post the 2000's numbering system? I've got a Meiserstuck but have no idea what size it is. I know it's not a 149 because of its size but have no idea of identifying! :crybaby:

The number on my screwtop begins with IK

Thanks

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

Please don't mix up the different numbers. There are the model numbers (the ones I'm reffering to here), there are the ident numbers (just for ordering) and there are the clip ring numbers (with can't be put in correlation to a model). And there are the individual limitation numbers on the limited edition pens.

So if you want to know what model you have, either look on the official Montblanc web site or look at FountainPen.de. And if you can't find your model there, post a picture.

thanks PP

maybe a silly question but the numbers 146, 149 etc. do they not simply relate to size? if so how can you identify a pen from a picture unless you have something to scale the length/width?

  • 1 year later...

And an even sillier question : where can I find this number on the pen ?

A picture of the pen might help but first, look on the cap band.

Pretty sure it's a Meisterstuck Doue in Black with 925 Sterling cap.

Should be from somewhere between 1990 and 2000 I think. But I can't find any numbers like in the opening post anywhere.

The cap band just says Montblanc Meisterstuck.

The proportions look like one of the 144 series pens. Is it a snap cap C/C pen?

Thanks! It's more a slide than a snap, but yes.

Next, is the cap proof marked?

Next, is the cap proof marked?

925 mark and 3 other silver marks that I can't make out without a magnifying glass.

Duotone nib, 4810, Montblanc 18K 764 (?? I really could use a magnifier..)

Nib should say 4810, 18k, 750...

Found a magnifying glass (2x, grumble) - 750 it is. Nothing on the cap bands number wise (does this means it's pre-1990?).

The inside of the clip has "Laiton" on it.. I guess that means it's brass?

Okay. Then the cap is sterling silver. Then you likely have a 1441 (pen) and a 1641 (ball point).
