J. Herbin Bleu Pervenche

Here is a review I wrote for J. Herbin Bleu Pervenche. IMO this is a very nice ink, after writing it I was surprised to see there is only one other review for this ink in the Ink Review Index.

As with my other reviews, my scans don't show the true color of this ink. I've also included some pictures taken with our passable point-and-shoot camera to try and better show this ink's true color... And although they are a little blurry, I think they help somewhat. :) (FP and ink purchases keep getting in the way of my DSLR fund, damn it.)

Anyway, onto the review...

As you can see, I didn't have enough Kon-Peki for either swabs... :(

I have this colour, and in my hands it is more turquoise than I see your pics on my monitor. I wanted the colour I see here. It has gone to the bottom of the roster, alas, until I find a pen that displays it better.

Nice review. I bought a bottle of this ages ago but was never inspired to open it. Might have to after this review. Thanks!

Thanks for the review of what I've considered an overlooked ink, and (IMO) one of the more interesting blue inks available in cartridges.

This is basically my go-to blue ink in medium-nibbed pens, as it's extremely well-behaved and performs well on all kinds of papers. (I like Noodler's Eel Blue better in fine-nibbed pens.) It looks really attractive on nonwhite paper - the kind of creamy color of Leuchtturm notebooks, say, or even the grey paper from Whitelines.

The bottle may be suboptimal for some pens, but I say just look at that as an excuse to buy a Snorkel. Or a tip-dip touchdown-filler. Or both. :)

This is a great little review! Love the drawing! =)

Thanks for a very well done review. Bleu Pervenche has been in my ink stable for many years. Although it is a color that I do not use often, I like it for Spring and Summer greeting cards. There is something bright and cheerful about the color for me. I also like using it with B nibs.

Yes, Herbin 30 ml bottles are a bit of a pain, are they not? I love Herbin inks and insist on using them, but I decant them into more useful bottles.

Great job on the review. (You'll have to stop tagging them as mediocre!) My wallet is happy this isn't a colour that speaks to me.

What do you mean "could be a pain in the ar....."? There's no question that Herbin bottles are precisely as you say. And they're not the only ones either are they (Caran d'Ache, are you listening? smile.gif ).

Anyway, joking aside, it was a nice review and yes it will certainly lead to an expansion of my ink stocks sometime soon.

Thanks for thereview

I got some in one of their pretty-but-impractical heart-shaped bottles, with a rubber bung

I have transferred it to a more suitable container.

I like the colour a lot, but I find it much more of a bright blue-turquoise than how I see the scans, which, on my screen, have a bit of a greyish tint.

It goes very nicely on just about any decent paper I've tried, in my Broad wet-stub-nibbed Onoto Magna Writer. I like it especially on white Laid paper.

No problems with feathering, or bleed-through, on any but very poor paper (my Field Notebooks don't like it...or any other very wet nib/ink combination I've tried)

If you make people think they're thinking, they'll love you; But if you really make them think, they'll hate you.

Wow, the shading is absolutely wonderful! I would have never looked at this ink, but I cant get over that shading! :puddle:

This is one of my go-to inks. I always have it in one of my pens. I love that it is light, but still a nice legible blue. Great review!

Finally, a place where being obsessed with pens and paper is the norm...
