Black Stationery

I am looking for some black stationery. Preferably 5x8 or note cards. Why black? The better to use gold, silver and white inks! Any suggestions, stores, etc. would be much appreciated.

That sounds pretty cool. I've never seen any inks in those colour, or do you mean in disposable marker type pens?

As for the paper i would suggest trying an art supply shop although it is unlikely that they will will sell the paper in the right size

olden days Jo, great idea. I found something that will work in the scrapbooking section and can cut on cutting board to desired size. The pens are actually ball point pens that I got from Swisher. I also want to try some dip pens and metallic inks, gold and silver or some other colors with metallic flakes on the black stationery. I have already seen envelopes that are black and white will probably cut paper to note card size since it is too thick to fold well.

Thanks again for a great idea.

I have yet to find the perfect black paper but here are two I've used: Neenah Classic Laid 80# Epic Black Cover (which is very heavy and could be cut to make notecards) and Paper Accents black paper which feels like 20 lb. paper and has matching black envelopes.

jbb, I knew that you would know. Now where do I find these papers.

Some day I hope my dip work is half as nice as yours.

The Neenah card stock is on ebay at a very good price in my opinion. Nice seller too! Paper Accents is generally carried in craft stores -- at least around here. What I would LOVE to find would be a dip pen friendly forest green paper in text weight ---- or maybe dark red or midnight blue. (Now you've done it!!!! I've got the paper shopping bug again.) :headsmack:

Here's a writing sample on a black lined legal pad. It's a light weight paper -- lighter than 20 lb. paper. It's not that easy to write on. :headsmack: My metalic inks sometimes go on translucent and only show after they are dry.

Not sure where you are in the US, but in my neck of the woods we have an XPedX retail location.

Now, most of the time they are a supplier of boring white and pastel copy paper like you would see in any copy room in any business in your city. And maybe most locations are, but I have a couple of REALLY GREAT GUYS at my location that offer some of the best service I have ever seen. They are more than willing to haul out sample books of specialty papers and place special orders and cut paper to fit. They are friendly and cheerful and knowledgeable and generally just wonderful to work with.

Since it is the only association I have ever had with XPedX, I have no idea if this is standard for the company or just a weird fluke. But I'm not complaining. :)

I suggest giving them a try!

I don't know about the U.S., but at the Staples stores here they have packages of coloured note cards, 8.5x5 paper, and coordinating envelopes in a variety of colours, including black. I think you can order them online through their website, as well. Hope this helps - good luck with your search!

I found note cards and envelopes here

http://www.paperandmore.com/products/themes/colors/blackpaper.html?utm_nooverride=1&gclid=CNa-_ZCl-KgCFdI32god1mFKRw

Great communications and even upgraded my shipping at no extra costs!

Paper is perfect and my gold, silver and white ink pens look great.

I am loving those black legal pads but just can't justify using 18 pads even though it is a good price. Maybe if I could split 3 ways, not so much because of the cost, but probably never even use up 6 pads.

Thanks for all the help.

  • 1 month later...

I had never encountered or thought of black stationary until I stayed at a Renaissance Hotel in Shanghai recently. The note pads in their guest rooms were black, and they provided an ordinary pencil to write on them. The pencil showed up quite clearly.

That's amazing. Thanks for posting -- I never knew that would work.

Pencil on black is so cool, I have one that writes a very bold line which I think would look very nice. And then there's those carpenter pencils that can make a very bold line, a little of a caligraphy look. I'm sure jbb is already on the hunt for a carpenter's pencil.
