Fake Mont Blanc 149

Michael A

Recommended Posts

I have some older less expensive MBs but would very much like to have a 149. I am not prepared to pay the USD 1000+ they charge for them in Sweden so it has to be a pre-owned pen. As always with MBs there is the problem with fakes. I have searched the FPN for information and found several references to fake 149s but no really clear information.

Are there any fake 149s out there? I am not worried about cheap copies with c/c fillers and Iridium Point Germany nibs, I can spot them. However, have you seen any fakes with piston fillers and of a quality where you could be fooled if you are only looking at pictures on E-bay?

No, Never seen any closely made 149 fake. However there are many 146s on ebay advertised as 149, you should watch out for those.

So far, I cannot recall any non-genuine Montblanc 149s on eBay, but beware of the Seller that incorrectly labels his pens. What I have seen are MB 146s and 144s, even a Mozart, offered for sale as "149"s.

On the other hand, I found a vintage 149 offered for sale as a "le grond" (sic). I was virtually the only bidder and at $278, that remains my best deal on a 149.

Know your pen well and deal with reputable Sellers, examining feedback numbers, and comments, and you should be OK.

Most of my 22 Montblanc pens, purchased on eBay, have come from Germany, others from France and Italy.

Best of Luck

149's are very distinctive, a fake would not be too difficult to spot. If you see something you're interested in, post the link here and let some FPN members take a look

Thank you all for the advice. I feel more comfortable now trying to buy a 149. On more question, are there any model years that are better or should be avoided?

I don't know about any that should be avoided but the most collectable seem to be the 1950's celluloid models. This applies to the 146 as well.

Hey al- I want to revive this thread. I've just found a good deal on a 149 from Italy and no one's bought it. Makes me skeptical... I'm buying from the US. Any advice here?

More details like a picture or a link to the sale will help.

Ha! Nevermind- Was playing the typical American and assumed the price was in dollars... of course a newish MB149 with an OB nib for $310 US is too good to be true! Thanks for your concern.

Hello

For 149s you could look up the sales by Danielle from Italy in the classifieds. her prices are in Euros, competetive, and her distinctive style is a photo of the pen on a binder note book.

On eBay look for auctions by abnerkeisha from Malaysia, and you may land a agood deal. I have bought a 149 recently for $338.

Neither of the above is related. Danielle I know by her repeated ads and obvious sales, and abnerkeisha I know bu having done business with him.

Generally I woud say you would be safer buying from the classifieds here than the eBay. Less chance of a fraud, as most (I would like to think) members are collectors and trying to update or modify their collections.

With regards to fake 149s. I have not seen one on eBay but I do have a sample of one near perfect replica of 149 except the nib. It is a piston filler.

If you are looking for 146s, I have a few for sale here in classifieds.

Enjoy your pens

Have a nice day

Junaid

There's a 149, 14C single colour!, OB at:

A bit pricey though.

What do the experts make of this - the 14C single colour does not feature in the chart in the pinned 'dating mb 149s' thread? Or is it just the light?

You don't know what you need until you realise you haven't got it.

If I am incorrect, please forgive me. But I think you're referring to "DANIELE" and I think he's a male. NTL, you offered excellent information and options to the original poster. Thanks.

Thanks y'all- all the links are helpful and I'm sure I'll continue to find them useful- can always count on FPNers!! Mom and I are getting a 149 from Daniele for my das's retirement. I love my own modern 146 OBB and now all this shopping for a 149 is making me want one. I like full-sized pens and love my M800, but I'll have to try on a 149 again and see how it feels.. I'll just have to try dad's out when it gets here!
