Fs: Lots Of Japanese Notebooks! Very Fp Friendly!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone:

I recently purchased a lot of Japanese notebooks, and would like to pass them on to the FPN community at a reasonable price. They're all very fountain pen friendly, with no feathering and little bleed through, even with the wettest nibs. The paper is very smooth, but not as 'glassy' as Clairefontaine or Rhodia. It is smoother than Miquelrius.

These are my favorite notebooks to use right now (especially the Kokuyo Campus series), and prefer the paper to more expensive brands like Rhodia and Clairefontaine (I find that ink dries faster on these, which matters a lot to me since I am left handed). Of the Japanese notebooks that I've used, these represent the best quality for fountain pens. I have attached a couple of pictures of feathering in Apica and Maruman "Sept Couleur" notebooks using a wet writing Mont Blanc 146, and the notebooks I'm selling here do not feather using the same pen/ink combo. Price is $5 each shipped in CONUS, 2 for $9, 3 for $13, 4 for $16, and $4 for each addt'l notebook after 4, i.e., 5 for $20, 6 for $24, etc. This is cheaper than jetpens, which charges $6 plus shipping for Kokuyo Campus series notebooks. I have a lot of these, and should be able to get more if there is enough demand. If you would like one, or several, just send me an email: jason94708(at)gmail(dot)com with how many of each notebook you'd like. Please specify which notebooks you'd like by using the numbering in the ad (#1=Kokuyo Campus lined, #2=Kokuyo Campus 15mm lined, #4=Kyokuto "School Note," etc.) Paypal preferred. I am willing to ship these internationally, but the shipping will be more, and will depend on where you are located. If there are a lot of orders, I will probably make a trip to the post office about once a week, no less, but maybe more.

2. Kokuyo "Campus" 15mm lined notebook. Made in Japan, 30 pages, 7" x 9 7/8" Green Cover (as shown in photo). This paper is lined in such a way to help one practice calligraphy, or any other kind of decorative writing. It of course works for normal note taking as well. To give you a sense of scale, the space between the red lines is 15mm.

Here's a couple of pictures of Maruman "Sept Couleur" and Apica notebook paper with the same Mont Blanc 146 OB nib used in the photos posted above. Note the feathering here--and these are notebooks beloved by fountain pen users. I also experience more bleed through with Apica and Maruman. I did not write any harder in these samples, I wrote exactly as I did in the samples above. I really like Apica and Maruman notebooks, as well as Rhodia, Clairefontaine, and Miquelrius, but definitely prefer the Kokuyo, Nakabayashi, and Kyokutos more. They really allow the shading and contrast in inks to show through, and ink dries on them rather quickly.

This is a great bunch of pads you're selling here, at a real good price. I'll be sending you a pm in a few minutes to obtain some. I too love Claire Fontaine and others, but the Japanese pads are my favorite.

I do want to say that the writing sample of the Apica CD 11 is true in my experience as well. However, the CD 15 is an entirely different experience because the paper quality is better. I use a CD 15 pad a month and do not have the problem's of feathering and bleed through as I do with the CD 11.

I'm working through a stack of Campus pads now, so I'm happy to be able to add to the stack from your offering here. :)

Dave

p.s. hope it was okay to post this.

NEW PRICE SCALING

So I just returned from the post office after mailing out the first batch of orders on these notebooks, and am afraid to say that the shipping prices were much more than I had anticipated. The weight of the notebooks makes it so that any order of 3 or more cannot be sent first class. I am instituting a new price scale that still keeps these notebooks affordable, especially if you buy in bulk.

New prices:

Notebooks are $3.50 each.

Shipping for 2 notebooks is $4 via First Class w/ Delivery Confirmation

Shipping for 3 to 10 notebooks is a flat rate of $6. Shipping will be via USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation.

Shipping internationally for 1 to 10 notebooks will be $14 via USPS International Priority Mail

If yo would like more than 10 notebooks please email me and I will calculate the shipping based on the number of notebooks you purchase.

Thanks!

If you send them USPS Media Mail it'll be considerably cheaper.

I did ask about this at the post office, but unfortunately notebooks are not considered 'media mail.'

Got my calligraphy book today and love it.

Worth a try!

Makes my 1.5mm Lamy Joy look great. The paper is super smooth and a great off white color. Handles ink just like Rhodia/Clairefontaine.

I just tried out one of the Campus lined notebooks. Interesting. Simple school-style binding, but high-quality throughout. The paper is typical Japanese hard-finish paper. It is thicker than most I've used, and it shows no bleed-through even with a very wet vintage nib I tried--one that tends to blot a bit when you cross over a just-written stroke. Nor is a dark ink visible through the page unless you hold it up to the light.

The finish is slightly rougher than my Staples bagasse pads, but still very smooth, and the paper is both thicker and more opaque. It takes ink beautifully, from the vintage pen, from a rather dry EF Wing-Sung, and a lusciously just-right Parker 51 F. Because of the hard finish, if you put a lot of ink down it takes a moment to dry, but you can see that by looking at it. I really like these little notebooks, and for the price, I'd say they are as good as any of the high-grade Japanese notebooks I've tried. And if you've only used European papers before, you really should try the Japanese style too.

Jason,

I REALLY like the Nakabayashi "Cross Line" notebook's. The quality of the stitched binding (reminds of Apica-CD15's) is top notch. PM sent for re-order.

New Stock In. Every notebook style is available.

Also, for a limited time, if you make a purchase of 2 or more notebooks I will throw in a free Japanese notebook made by motto100yen company. I picked some of these up thinking I might add them to my stock, but the paper quality is not up to my standards. They work well for fine nibbed pens, but broads and mediums tend to cause some feathering. Paper quality similar to Apica CD-11. Not bad per se, but not fantastic like the Kokuyo Campus series, or the Nakabayashi Crosslines.

Thanks again!

Best,

Jason

I just received my notebooks, and I absolutely adore them! I didn't think they'd get to me so quickly, and it was a lovely surprise to find them waiting for me when I arrived home from work this afternoon.

Far be it from me to nudge any fellow notebook addicts, but I do have to say that these are really nice notebooks with fantastic paper, so ... *runs off to order more* blush.gif

I'm sorry, I do not. Unfortunately, I don't have a Dani Trio Densho B. But I do know that it works well with an Omas MoMA with a ridiculously wet B nib, as well as a Parker Duofold BBB, and a really wet writing Stipula Saturno with a 1.1 Stub. Hope that helps!

Jason

Jason, do you know if this paper will work well with a Danitrio Densho B nib?

Another satisfied customer here! I ordered several of the Campus notebooks and every fountain pen I tried in them works beautifully. I also like the construction of the notebooks--so easy to carry around. Thanks, Jason!
