(Mini) J. Herbin, Luminescent Ink Review.

So, immediately you'll notice, I don't have any pictures as of yet. It goes without saying that this ink is a bit tough to capture with a camera. As soon I can though, I will edit the post to show you guys how cool this stuff is.

First off, with all of the particulates in this ink, it would obviously murder a fountain pen. I used a dip pen with the Leonardt Principal EF nib, and it acts as you expect an ink to. It can be a bit tough to see at times, but personally it hasn't made a difference. Now the big question, how visible is it? I think what first bears mentioning is the bottle. I can't quite articulate how strange it is to see a luminescent eidolon perched upon my desk. At night, the bottle is plainly visible, and as I've said, is certainly a bit strange. Now, with the written word, it's captivating. To watch something basically invisible on unlined paper, go to an eerie and bright green glow is undoubtedly one of the coolest thing I've seen an ink do. Hold it under a light for a few seconds, and the words are plainly visible. After a few minutes, the evanescent hairlines are no more, but the shades are still hold up nicely. I have to mention, that's when writing copperplate, when just normally writing, (same nib) your words are still very visible but suffer the same fate of the hairlines after a few minutes.

All in all, this is probably the coolest ink I own, and I own too much for my own good. If you have the spare change lying around, and a dip pen, you'll instantly love the novelty and afforded possibilities of this ink, as well as the specter to watch over you while you sleep.

Huh. That's pretty neat! Would definitely be a bit freaky to see a glowing bottle of ink on my desk, though - haha.

Good gravy, this is just ridiculously ludicrous without photos.

Pinch me when I can see it.

I have to preface this picture a weeeee-little bit. My main battle camera is MIA so my phone had to substitute. Also, much to my chagrin, a few small children managed to poor out almost all of the bottle. Visitors :bonk:. So, I have a fresh batch on the way. What I did manage to do is, with only a little fluid left, use a q-tip and scrape off a lot of the sediment from the bottom of the bottle. The result is simply stunning. The amount of sediment that hardens to the bottom makes me wish I had got it into circulation earlier. Note that the camera on my phone is very basic, and otherwise would not have picked this up if it wasn't in such a concentration.

If you hold the ink under the light for just a second, the result is a pure phantasm. I held the dried ink under a light for about 5 seconds, and turned it off. The room would otherwise be pitch black, but this stuff was a venerable light source.

I know I keep this topic going, but when I get my coming bottle, I'm going to first stir up the mix, and see what this stuff can really do. With any luck at all, I should have a good camera to capture it too.

Very small, smallest bottle I own. This is a very minuscule, understated bottle. I own several 30ml bottles of ink, and this one is the smallest. A lot of it comes from the minimalistic cap.

Whoa!!!

This is incredible!!!

More details please! Is it dip-pen only, or fountain pen safe? Where did you get it? Can one buy this online? I've never even head of it, and now I'm totally fascinated!

Edit: I just answered my own questions.

Hi all,

I've just been listing some if this ink for the Lucky 7 Pens store - here's the best picture I could get of its glowing properties (attached)

It's definitely not a fountain pen ink unfortuately but it looks absolutely amazing sat there on my correspondence sorter in the evening when it starts to get dark.

Best wishes,

Steve

In order to "activate" the ink when it is applied to paper, do you subject it to an ultraviolet light, incandescent / fluorescent light, or just heat?

Thanks!

Hey OP et al,

How do you guys write with this ink? I've been trying with several different J.Herbin dip pen nibs, but to no avail :bawl:

Any ideas so that I can make the words actually show up, without it bleeding through 50 layers of paper? :hmm1:

THANKS!
